Infra red blocking!

I've been looking around for suitable materials to block infra red cameras reading a possible heat signature. I thought about getting some lead sheating, way too heavy and far too expensive. I looked at the lead after getting no joy with that c3 stuff.
This is out of my scope of education and experience!
Do any of you riu folks have any ideas or comments that you would like to share?

not only is it not worth the hassle.. as 'thalboy' stated.. but.. its basically impossible to block infra-red. You can't escape the heat synch...

I mean, as of right now.. I have not found/heard of any kind of material that has been tested and proven to block or "ricochet" the beam that comes

from the infra-red scope.. so as of right now.. this current day.. its still impossible to block it.

But, if anyone out there, has a proven system.. and can show that it does indeed work.. please feel free to share it with us.

But then again, if I were able to do that, and prove that it does indeed work... I wouldn't be telling anyone.. which is probably why nobody has

said anything about finding a material that works.

anyhow, good luck on your venture.

peace.

The first thing I think of is kitchen foil.
The last thing I think of is kitchen foil.
I'm thinking of kitchen foil and putting kitchen foil in the text so much because if you are an average member of the public who just so happens to grow cannabis then kitchen foil is going to be the one thing you can get loads of no questions asked. . . . it's also going to be affordable compared to the lead, you mentioned the cost of lead in your opening post. Yes lead is very expensive that's why some people steal it off roofs and cash it in for scrap. Lead is also very heavy, it is very dense, it has a lot of mass. Lead is great because of these properties at insulating against x-rays. . . . that's why radiographers and/ surgeons working with x-rays wear protective clothing lined with lead.
I don't know if there's any paint available that would work, but then again it would be a specialist product I guess and be too expensive. That's why I think kitchen foil BUT it is a fire hazard as far as I have read AND it is of course a conductor of electricity so I don't know if it would be suitable for your particular situation. You know the details so you will have to check the potential dangers. . .
Those are my ideas regarding your question.

WOW! Kitchen foil. . . . looks like you got the hots for it!
I see your point about it being easy availible and affordable. But it's so thin!
Thank you for the details.

How about 'CHOPPER-STOPPER' infused plastic sheeting, that shit is the bollocks :)
Recently While Folk Have Been Sleeping In The U.K ; Utility Companies Have Been Driving Around Our Houses Looking For " Heat Signatures " And Either Contacting The Tenants With Improvement Suggestions For Better Insulation, And Have Also Tipped off The Authorities On Obvious " Unprotected " Grow Shows"

Chopper Stopper : This is A Lightproof White Visqueen Plastic Sheet Which Has Metal Filings or Something That Stops Detection Of Infra Red Footprints
Other Products Are Available To Insulate Your Room And Channel Hot Air Upwards Out Chimney Or Clothes Dryer Duct ( Sonoduct Insulated Duct )

Forget Helicopters ; This Little Item Has Replaced Those

Don't Panic Though ; Insulating Your Grow Room Protects It ( Especially During The Summer ) From ALL Sources Of Heat
And In Winter , The Heat Does Not Escape, Cutting Down On Bills ( And Them Other "The Bills "

Take Celotex Solid Insulation For Example
I Could Easily Build A Growroom Using This Stuff In A Couple Of Hours Using Nothing But A Silicone Gun And A Breadknife
Cellotex TuffR Comes In 8 X 10 Foot Sheets , Up To 10 Inches Thick - STELTHY

i'm a roofer here in the uk and have been searching for a little while i have asked in many builders merchants also other builders on site and there's alot of conflicting info about some people swear by some products and some others but 1 thing nearly all have agreed on is standard insulation boarded and wrapped, this is still expensive to undertake but nowhere near the cost of ir blocker. i'm personally going to cover the walls and ceiling with the thickest insulation i can find then board the walls and ceiling with 8x4sheets most prob sterling then tape all the joints with duct tape then cover the walls with safety blanket that also has great insulation values and will act as a very tough and easy to clean reflective surface

Ha ha. . I don't have the hots for it at all, my wife would kill me! Just a thought like you asked.
Anyway due to your questioning I've been researching the FLIR cameras, what they can actually do and how to avoid detection. I've learnt quite a lot, again thanks to my associaion with cannabis!
These cameras CANNOT see through walls, they just pick up hot spots AND they( police ) look at the contrast of the rest of the building, surrounding buildings and air. In other words they compare what they see and if they see a hot spot for example in someones roof they suspect illegal growing. They also draw the same conclusions if they see a glowing room in one part of a house or building and if they see heat vented out from a window or even a hot window. Apparently you can vent out your exhaust through your tumble drier duct and they think nothing of it :-)
I read an article on cannabis culture( amongst others ) about this and it tells of just how many watts of light you can use and with the correct anti detection measures be pretty safe.
Yes you guys are correct at saying that insulation does work, well done. You don't need the fancy expensive stuff, forget the lastest tech that will bleed you dry. What's also effective is distributing the warm/ hot exhaust air around the rest of the building as much as you can, just like having the heating on.
So in brief don't use too many watts, insulate well, distribute the heat over a large area, keep your mouth shut and controll the odour.
Hmmm if I've gone off point a little sorry. . . just trying to help.
One more thing to bare in mind. . . during my searching there was one mention of a camera that uses radio signals? All new stuff though and far too expensive I guess yet, prob even just to scare us.

How likely is lead poisoning if you had enough lead around to shield an entire grow room?
dont think its very likely because you have to ingest the lead one way or the other. breathe in the vapour off lead or have it in your food or water. dont think lead in a grow room would give off vapour but stripping a lot of lead based paint with a heat gun prob would.
