Let me start by saying I am an indoor grower and this is my first outdoor adventure. I decided to put 5 plants outside in 100 gal smart pots.
Strains- Mango Kush/Blue Dream/Ed Rosenthal's Super Bud/ Chem Dog/ Kimo x Dynamite x blackberry
Medium - I used 7 bags of botanicare pure earth to 1 bag organics alive in each pot
Nutrients- I am brewing Bountea compost teas. I will add some bloom ancillaries later, but for veg I am only feeding the teas

So I put these ladies out on the 15th of May. Appearently, a little too soon as most of them started flowering and have been revegging for the last month. The area that they are sitting at is above a retaining wall in my backyard. I placed the smart pots on 4' pallets and had to block up one end of the pallets becuase there is a slope.
Anyway, this is my outdoor medicinal grow.

Mango Kush

Blue Dream

Ed's Super Bud

Chem Dog

Kimo Blackberry

I know it was mentioned already, but it would have been nice to have had a wee bit more space in between them. Not critiquing, just re-mentioning it because I think they are still going to surprise you; reveg and all. Double issue really. One is the space *you* need to work on them as well as what they may like in extra light etc. All good though.

This may not a 1/2 acre grow, but it is still pretty impressive for a backyard. Looking forward to them exceeding your expectations. Like I mentioned in your other thread (before I realized you had started this), just make sure you pay them as much attention as you do your indoor. I may be off there, but the tone suggested you are expecting less and might let things slip because of it. Or not. Just my take on it. That little bit of extra TLC makes the difference. And you're blessed with not having to hike for three hours to do it. :)

I mentioned it in the other thread, but I do appreciate the input. You bring up a good point, because I was thinning them out every couple weeks and then I read in some of these outdoor journals that is better to let the plant grow it's course. It is killing me not to be thinning them out though. Also, I asked for some advice in my other thread about the foggers or atomizers. Anyone know if these are worth the money? Again, I appreciate the encouragement. You are actually not far off with my attitude. I brew the teas and water/foliar feed them, but I spend nowhere close to the efforts I do on the indoor. Thanks for the kick in the butt.bongsmilie

i been thining mine out too, it aint slowing me down a bit.
I thinned a bit today.

those are fucking huge great job
Thanks man

So today I thinned a little out of the middle of the plants. I also foliar treated with a mixture of greencure/sucrashield/magic green. I went through two gallons. I did notice on the mango ( which isn't comming out of flower) that there were a few moths flying out as I spayed. I am going to get some BT tomorrow and will treat all of them this weekend. I want to start preventative treatments to try and avoid those fuckin catepilars I keep hearing about. I am not sure what to do about the mango, it seems to be floweriing. I thought it was comming out, but seems to be back in flower again. Anyone know if it will just continue to flower now or if I should start with some bloom nutrients? I am new to this outdoor thing. I will try and take some pics in the morning when I am watering.

Dude I really hope for your sake that you avoid those catepillars. I did a 6 plant outdoor in the east bay area a few years back and I had to hand pick the little bastards out of the center of buds and then usually remove some of the bud itself that would rot. I know you will get ahead of the game. Oh yeah I never trimmed one leaf off of the outdoor plants. The sun penetrates much better than any indoor light. You wouldnt believe how the lower branches produce. I wouldnt worry about thinning them out too much theyll do fine without it. As always just an opinion raider a lot can to be learned from watching your grows.

Ya those fuckers are nasty I hear. I want to get ahead of them. My brother-in-law had them last year and had to do the same as your descibed. I have been doing a lot of reading on them. Appearently the moths lay their eggs now and then they hatch in the middle of the buds and eat and shit their way out. nasty little fuckers.
As for the thinning, I was doing a lot of thinning at first. Then I started reading on outdoor and the consensus is exactly what you said. So I stopped thinning, for a few weeks and they just look a bit crowded in the middle, so I took off a some of the middle little branches. I did cut a decent branch off the bottom of my blue dream though, you know the one that you want to put back on after you see how big it is. Anyway, I plan on keeping the thinning to a minimum. Thanks for the advice and the compliment.
