2nd Grow - Attic - Need help!

Hello, I am about to start up my 2nd grow and it will be in a walk in attic.
I am not sure If i am going to try to make it a hydroponic setup or just soil.
My goal is 20 plants - about an oz from each. If some1 can tell me if i am on the right track or what not.
This is going to be my setup.

1 1000w hps and 1 1000w mh. - I found some cheap generic bulbs that hopefully last me.
I am going to start the hps for 2 weeks for vegetation, then the mh for the rest of the time.
I heard a lot of good from starting 12/12 from seed, but i might just got 24/0 for 2 weeks. then 12/12 the rest of the time.
I am going to buy rockwoll and have my pots with 20% perlite and 80% soil.
I am going to have 2 fans blowing at opposite directions, I would like to have a carbon filter, but not sure where to buy or how to make it. I am not sure how the ventiallation is but hopefully it will be fine.
I am not sure exactly how i am going to get power there, but i am planning on buying a ballast and hooking it up to the power some how.

If any1 can give me any tips or critiques, that would be so helpful.
Thanks,

you will want to be using the MH to veg with and the HPS to flower. i would veg them for 3 weeks with just the MH and then flower them with the HPS, and you would easily beat your 1oz mark more like 1.5-2oz if you do a good job

hell why not if you got both use the MH and the HPS at the same time

Ya, thats what i ment. R u sure I should be doing them at the same time? I heard it was better to do it seperatly. Maybe throw in some leds while i veg.
Do u think i should also use some kind of c02 and what about nutrients?
Thank u

Are you sure you want to use 1000 watters in a attic? I am in a attic right now, 2 months into flowering, desperately trying to get into a different room where I can control temperatures. I used 2 400w metal halide for veg, and 2 600w HPS for flower and I am air cooling those with a 6" inline fan with a 650cfm carbon filter. On top of that I have a 1150cfm attic exhaust fan venting the room directly through a tunnel full of Ona Gel to the outside. (2) 16" wall mount fans, (1) 14" stand fan, (1) 20 box fan as a air intake from a cooler room in the house, but I still can't keep my temperatures down. They start at 75f in the morning and end at almost 90f by the end of the light cycle. It wouldn't be so bad if I had c02 in a sealed room, but I can't keep a sealed room in the attic cool without a portable AC unit, which I can't afford right now.

I don't want to shoot you down. But I would reconsider the location of the grow, or at least invest in some heavy duty, high quality insullation, as well as a good high BTU ac unit. At least this is how it is here in california.

The attic offers a lot of great space to grow, but save some money on 1000w MH lamp and get a 400w instead, Use the money you save on a portable AC unit. What size is your grow room?

Also, I personally wouldn't use rockwool and then soil, it could easily cause fungus and mold issues. Try Peatpots. And if you are inbetween about soil and hydro, go soiless. A combo of peatmoss, perlite, vermiculite, hydroton clay, or whatever you'd like. You can buy a Carbon Filter at any hydro shop, as well as premade soiless mix like Sunshine Mix 4, which should be cut with 10%-30% perlite. You can feed them like they are hydro, treat them like they are in soil, it's very simple for a first time grow. Generic light bulbs work, but anything with a enhanced spectrum will give you enhanced yields. I've already done my side by side 400w MH EYE Hortilux Blue at 6500k, next to a generic Sylvannia 4100K and the Hortilux gave better results. But I have to admit, I was really surprised at how well the Sylvannia kept up. And I was very impressed when I put them together in the same room, the difference in spectrums gave me a giant leap in growth before flowering. which actually lead to 5ft flowering trees. some of them are as low as 4 1/2' and some are as tall as 6'.
