Question about energy costs.

I am going to start growing at my house vs my friends house and I am going to be using a 150W HPS and MAYBE a couple CFLs. Now I'm trying to grasp the kWh equations and I'm just not following.

Maybe I can break it down to the question I'm trying to ask.

Is a 150W CFL or a 150W incandescent gonna cost about the same to run as a 150W HPS?

I tried to use the energy calculators online that will give you an estimate based on what light you use but none of the calculators include HPS or MH.

IT will go you about 10-20 dollars depending on how much you get charged per kilowatt. To run a 400w hps, 100w inline fan and all my controllers and so on it cost me an add'l 45 dollars

I suspect that you are talking about a true 150W cfl, one of those expensive ones not the 42W, 150W equ. If that is the case, watts are watts and 150=150. I'm not 100% sure about that answer but, that is my understanding.

a 150w envirlight will use a certain amount of power.

watts = voltage X amps

for a 125w cfl envirolight

wattts = 230v (UK) x 0.35A = 80.5w real usage.

80.5w is 0.08kwh. multiply that by your energy rate, say 12p a unit, and you have a running cost of 0.12 X 0.08 = 0.0096p an hour or roughly £5 at 18/6 usage for a month.

for a 125w hps, 125/1000 = 0.125kwh. 0.125 * 0.12 = 0.015p/hour so do the math and you end up paying about £8 a month at 18/6 usage
