Outdoor grow tips

Hi forum,

This is user duckfoot and I approve this thread!

I'd like to say I love this forum - I've been looking around for a while now and it all seems pretty friendly place to be. So, I thought I'd share with you a few tips from my 12 years of experience growing the mighty herb.

1. Rainwater is your fert
2. Prep your soil the year prior to the grow (Winter) with manure and take into the greenhouse just before the bugs come out to play
3. Sample your leaf (you'd be surprised!) and bud as they grow

Now for a more detailed explanation of the above;

1. Rainwater is fert
Rainwater has naturally occurring chemical bases inside it taken up from the earth and seas. This stuff is the BEST natural form of fertiliser known to man.

My point is, why try and flood your soil with chemical ferts - even if they are organic - or any regular chemical quick release food? When rainwater gives them little amounts of what they need. My point is - less is more when it comes to good cannabis growing. See how LITTLE ferts you can get away with.

2. Prep your soil well the year before
I use organic chicken manure. I mix it into the top layer of soil and allow rainwater to soak it down into the 60 litre pots I use for outdoor growing. The biggest pots at B&Q basically I used for this year.

This way - the soil is well adjusted to the microbiological organism uptake. If you ever did science at school - you'll remember that there are tiny organisms in dirt that regulate the nutrient uptake from the soil to the root. Feeding water gives a 'quick fix' of nutes from the soil but afterwards its left up to the organisms that multiply and feed off the roots in symbiotic relationship to plant sizes.

This is how plant growth happens at the root ball level.

3. Sample your product!

Yeah, def. take a leaf or two as the plant matures in veg. It'll be a good indicator of potency of bud. I've even scrapped a few plants in veg because the leaf did not get me high. If you don't ruin your tolerance in-between grows by smoking loads of pot but only hit your self up on the week end and try your best to keep your tolerance down you'll get high from a potent plant's leaf set.

And finally, sample the buds at week 3-4! This is when they are big enough for picking and sampling. My reason for this is - you'll never know when you're gonna get busted!!! I once spent £150 on Apollo 11/13 I forget which but it was from the Brothers Grim back in the day when seeds were exclusive.

And I only got ONE joint at week 8 from that stash of plants before they ALL got taken away from me during a bust. When the officer bought in a massive brown paper bag full of my lemony Apollo 11 and opened the bag up = citrus filled the room I was in. That is also a good curing tip. Put the whole plants leafs and all and stem into a massive brown paper bag and curl up the top of the bag and open daily to smell your herb drying slower than ever! It has to be at least a 6ft high bag though - none of that tiny brown paper bags from your grocery store.

Well, post your tips here if you have any. I thought I'd throw these out here for people to take a look at - I'm not claiming to be golden when it comes to growing your own - or a guru - but this is just my experience with outdoor grows.

I have more ideas too - but they'll have to wait for another day because my back is hurting bad and I need my medicine ;)

lawl really? first off, it sounds like manure is your fert, not rainwater. might possibly want to look into the actual definition of the word fertilizer. Second of all, i would highly recommend NOT cutting and smoking any leaves in Veg. A. if you get any feeling whatsoever its probably from the chlorophyll, as any THC in the plant has not become psychoactive yet, and B. you should think of any leaves as nute factories, and not cut anything when not necessary. not getting enough light? LST. if you really REALLY want to cut a sample, i wouldn't even bother until week 6 of bud (on average).
Are you the Feds? I don't like your post count or your join date.
really? he has half the posts as you (you only have 40 at time of this post, he has 22), and joined the same month. Are YOU the feds?
as i can tell you are merely a noob (not unlike myself) who thought he would post a bunch of nonsense information that is inaccurate, i thought i would point you in the right direction for some reading. no thanks necessary, i hope it helps.

If you are going to start up a thread to share your "tips" don't get offended when people ask for pics. And then to ask if he is the feds because of his post date and post count which is not that far off of yours. For all you know he has been growing for 20 years. If you want to share info that is all good, but make sure it is useful. Smoking chlorophyll sucks dude. Good luck!
