I am doing a 600w in a 71Hx48wx20 deep closet cab. I am using a 450cfm inline fan to suck the head out of the room and a air cooled hood. As well as running a cooler thru intake ports. Heat will be a issue without ventalation.

Sweet so it is doable. I have my cabinet in a walk in closet so it ok with heat right now with the cfls goin, it does kinda suck that im gonna have to make a hole in the wall but gotta do that i gotta do especially since the smell is going to be strong.... but great :) .

I have a 400w hps in a 2x4x5 grow tent from Secret Jardin and I'm having heating issues, look into ventilation before you throw it in there or you might cook your plants

you'll need serious ventilation on something that small with a 400 watt. have it ready b4 you turn it on...it gonna get hot in there.

In a cabinet 4' tall, you're going to have to scrog to keep the height down. Clones dropped straight into flower easily reach 3' tall (not including pots / root chambers). I would recommend two smaller lights (200W would be fine) in such a short cabinet. It'll distribute the light more evenly over your space and give you multipoint light which lowers shady areas.

I got a 400watt in a 3.5ft high 3ft wide and 2.5ft deep I have a home made cool tube with a 250cfm fan exhaust right into my attic with an 100cfm intake fan with two small 40cfm fans blowing over the canopy and another around mid level of the plant. When ambient temps are 80-85 my box is around 90-91 when the ambient temps are 60 I can get the temps down to 65 and I actually need to turn down the fans a bit to warm it up. So YES it is doable with the right equipment.

With a cooltube you can lower the light within a few inches to the canopy, so a 400w is definitely doable.

Yes with my cooltube I have the cola about 4 inches from the light and about 2inches from the glass on the cool tube, the only problem I have been having is minor light bleaching but that really is not a big deal.

My lamp will not be exposed in the cab. it'll be in a glass exhaust cooling tube going into the attic with a carbon filter. Since the cab isn't so tall I'm thinking about not making it adjustable to save some room that extra ducting would take up.
