Cfl Proximity To Foliage

Yes when using CFLs you do want MAXIMUM light coverage . i heard you get more lumens from the side of the coils.and you need top adjust atleast everyother day ...if your planning on flowering with just the CFLs i would suggest using alot or your going to get airy buds

you need atleast 10,000 Lumens to start flowering its highly recommended
I disagree with the whole airy buds and a ton of lumens and short plants. You DO need to put more effort into training your plants with CFLs. I'd recommend topping ONCE (not once every day...) and pruning leaves intelligently so that light gets to where it needs to gets. With enough lumens, cooling, nutrients, and proximity to the plants, you can easily get dense buds and 1oz if not more a plant.

I'm not exactly Garden Knowm but I've started flowering ever since i've put my ladies in soil and they love it. A month and a half later I can easily see the bud sites that will develop over the next 2-3 months in which they should be finished. I topped 3 plants, I have 6 23W CFLs, and I'm looking for about an OZ off of them. I could've easily fit 6 plants under those lights. It's all about topping, pruning, and the nutrients you use, but you DO need to have a decent amount of lumens and you DO need to have the bulbs close to the plants. That's the main part.

morning everyone ! im using a diy aeroponics system for 10 rooted clones(big budx white widow) im following Garden Knowms method from the book he has out,and i cannot stress enough the need for proximity to the foliage when using cfls. I vegged for 16 days (24/0) then swithced to 12/12 when they were 5 " tall, they now stand at 16" tall and the buds have covered the stem and swelled like mad.I have 15x42watt cfls all within 2" of the plants foliage.Although any strain can be grown with cfl's,i would go with a large yielding variety like big bud, mango, white widow, northern lights.I like northern lights because its a really easy plant to raise they are a really tough strain.I cant put any pictures up cos i dont have a camera yet.I hope this can help anyone.peace.

hello all, i am 3 weeks into flower on my first grow, soil grow, 5 plants, 2 veged for 5 weeks with a TON of LST (still only about 10 inches off the soil) the other 3 for about 2 weeks. i just took off the tie dows and am wondering if they will get much taller? Each of the two plants veged for 5 weeks take up about a 14"x 14" space. i am using 12 23w 2700 k cfl's with 2 6500k cfls. total lum is about 20,000 and only about 2-3 inches above tops. any closer and they burn!!!! Also i am wondering if the buds will grow at a steady rate or if bursts happen and if the flowers grow larger later in the cycle or even through out... any advice is helpful

p.s. i use foxfarm cycles for nuts

Expect double to triple the size of the plant moving from veg to flowering. Everything sounds good from what you've listed.

My buds seem to grow according to how I pay attention to the leaves. A deficiency/toxicity will slow down growth obviously. Gave them a nice flush then looked at them the next day...bud growth was noticeably quicker than the few days beforehand.

your buds will really start to swell the last few weeks of flowering.i like to use plain water and molasses or Sweet the last few wks.it brings out the flavor in your herbals.really makes bubblegum "gummier" after a good cure obviously.

this molasses i keep hearing about.... what and wher do i get it?
Albertson's or whatever grocery: Brer Rabbit BLACKSTRAP UNSULPHURED is best , Grandma's unsulphuredwill do... 1 tablespoon per gallon of water when you water, ... Some do all through the grow...others just during flower

Hope that helps

I use CFL's and I have found it very easy to miss judge the light distance and having to compensate for the plants growth by moving the light. Instead I just place a sheet of glass between the plants and lights sort of a SOG grow by having the lights for instance I use 4 = 43 watt bulbs thats 10,400 lumens, with a $18 a month price tag, only 2 inches away from my plants.

If you put a fan aiming up at the bulbs you can keep them much closer. I have about 8 26 watters and that big 65 watt cfl all about an inch away. They do grow fast and like someone said earlier you do need to adjust them a lot DAILY.
