Required Grow Tent Ventilation

Hey all,

I'm setting up a tent for my first grow. It's a 5ft x 4ft x 2ft tent. The temp outside tent is around 72-73. For first grow, I'm gonna be running, at most, 8x 42watt CFLs. I'll be starting off with 2 plants to get my feet wet.

Right now, I have 2x 120mm computer fans rated at 44cfm. I was going duct tape these to 6" -> 4" reducers for the 6" holes on top of the tent. Of course, now I'm having doubts about that set up. Especially if I wanted to use some sort of carbon scrubbing. (BTW, all passive intake)

Now I'm stuck because I wanted a low noise, and more important, low watt exhaust.

If your only using CFL I would recommend these fans

If you want a carbon scrubber inside your tent I would check these out

However if you upgrade to a 250w or 400w HPS I would def go for a real durable Squirell Cage fan so you could vent and pull through a carbon filter. But think about it

get a 400watt cool tube and a 400cfm fan and be done with it. cfl's is too much crap to mess with. just my 2cents

No thanks. I'll stick with CFL. And my pref of lights isn't the topic.

Thanks I think Lowes has those, too. I might get the 6" so I don't have to deal with adapters.

Just wanted to update.

I found some sort of 4" flange that's a near perfect fit for the 120mm fans. Bolt holes and everything. At lowes. What I did, just messing around, I stacked the 2 fans on top of each other blowing the same direction. Bolted them to the flange. After some cuttin on cardboard, and fitting over an exhaust hole, I cranked 'em up.

The walls on the tent started sucking in. And had good amount of air coming out the top. And I haven't even sealed around the flange yet. And at way less wattage (<4w total for both) and noise than an A/C blower.

These were 44 cfm fans, and I have some 80 cfm fans on the way that I'm going to stack. Heck, now I'm sure I could've stuck with the 44cfm fans I already had. But with the 80 cfm, I might be able to lower the voltage to get a quieter operation.

Oh, and to give power to the fans, I found an old tattoo gun power supply that has several voltages up to 12v.
