What Do You Guys Think of the Idea of Medals in the Military?

The reality is that they indeed do give you medals for killing others, and its not so much the medal, but the accessories that go with the medals, bronze stars, silver stars, Combat V, Combat E and others signify a good body count.
Not always. Corpsmen, like myself, typically get medals for saving lives, not killing.:-P

i was a machinist mate on a submarine, far, far from the battlefield.
I think medals are a bonus and add a sense of accomplishment to the earnee, the same as a diploma (just a piece of paper). I only had two rows when i got out of the Navy but let me tell you; the work our entire crew had to put forth and sleepless nights was worth it. You've never experienced comradery unless you've served and i miss that like no other. Not only did the service instill some great core principles i was in dire need of, it provided me with a way out of a pretty rough situation i was in outta high school. Not to mention i was stationed in Hawaii, woot!!!

GO NAVY SUBMARINERS, COMSUBPAC!!!

I'm just giving you a hard time. I had a lot of submariner friends. Good bunch of guys. A little crazy, but good guys nonetheless.:bigjoint:
its funny you say that cause ive seen some bright mofo's be shitfaced-drunk at the reactor control panel having not slept a wink, monitoring and adjusting for reactor/systems pressures and temps.

I knew some submariners that would take acid with them on patrol. You wouldn't see me tripping on a sub.:fire:

what is long, hard and full of seamen?

A submarine.
lol! I forgot about that one.
