Is it too late for trimming?

I'm on Day 41 of flowering and this is also my first grow. I am noticing the lower growth has made nowhere close to the progress of the upper growth. I was wondering how cutting off some of the lower growth this far into flowering would effect my plants. They are a Trainwreck and a Sour Diesel, one of each, Under a 250 watt HPS.

And a follow up to that, would cutting off the lower growth improve the upper growth?

I'm attaching some photos which are from yesterday. Any advice, even not related to my question, is welcomed.

EDIT: I am asking mostly for the Trainwreck. The Sour Diesel seems to be doing fine all throughout.

Dont trim it unless its necrotic. Other than that she'll let ya know when leaves need to come off. You'll be able to pull them off with the most gentle tug. Cutting foliage at the bottom of the plant does very little to effect the hermie chances, it's the strongest and most established area of the plant. It helps the plant concentrate its energy on the upper canopy similar to topping causing inner branching and side branching to accelerate.

My Lowest branch is probably about 5 inches from the soil. the plant's about 3' tall exactly. It's become obvious to me now that I let them veg WAY to long haha, and should have trimmed them up good while they were in that state, which I just did to my current vegging plants. No only two of those lower branches are producing heavily, but they are also almost the size of another plant themselves. But if it will harm her to lose them I will just leave them be, and let the lower part flower longer maybe? I'm also going tomorrow to get tomato cages for my vegging plants, because I have been learning a lot about support too from this first flower. I think I'm stoned and rambling, thanks for the advice so far!

Yes you can trim upper parts and leave the lower go longer.
I dont think thats what he is talking about.

Anyway though, No dont cut anything off, the lower buds not getting enough light means........you dont have enough light, pick up some cfls for side lighting and problem solved......

Thank you, that's a good answer. In response to that, can I instead let the lower parts keep going along slowly without effecting the growth of the upper? It's produceing more on the upper parts than I will ever need all at once...

Thank you!

that would work, but I would add side lighting for sure, the stuff can be stored for quite awhile if you do it right, might as well get as much as you can from the plants and save the leftover or use it to make lots of butter or hash or oil or etc. one other thing that might help you though is that you dont need to harvest all at once, you can do a staggered harvest just fine. chop the top when its done and get the lights closer to the newly exposed colas and give them some time to finish up.
