How often should I water my seedlings?

I planted 9 germinated seeds about 2 days ago. So far I have 3 that are just beginning to pop out of the soil. Right now I am watering the seeds and the sprouts maybe 3-4 times per day in small amounts so that the soil is always moist, but never wet.

Should I ease up on watering though once more seeds begin to sprout above the soil?

Also, one of my seeds actually sprouted and popped out of the soil before a day after planting even, however the seed case is still kind of stuck on it. I tried to help it off, but it's on their enough to where I'm afraid of hurting the plant. I've been wetting it during watering but it's still on there, should I just let it come off on it's own?

Thanks for any help!

Chip,

It's very easy to overwater a young plant, so you need to be pretty careful at this point. They really don't need a whole lot of water at this point in their lives, and will be fairly susceptible to being drowned until they are about 2-3 weeks into vegging and get to be about 12" tall. By that point they have usually established enough of a root system that overwatering them becomes nearly impossible. For right now I'd ease up on the watering a bit-just don't let it go so long that the upper soil dries out, since your plants roots aren't very deep yet.

Just keep your soil moist (not to wet and not to dry) and as for the seed shell being stuck to the cotlydons i have had this many times and dont pull it off just simply put drops of water on the shell every hour or when its dried just keep putting drips of water on the shell
and it will fall off on its own very soon but by no means pull it off or touch it just keep dripping water on the shell.
