Clones (sorry for new thread didnt wanan hijack others though)

Ok so after a VERY shitty first time grow (only 2-3feet tall with tiny buds...hermis...poor roots....list goes on) i have decided to take a few clones (yes i know they will be hermis but i wanna get it down pat before i move on to the expensive stuff) and make them babies root under 2x4" grow light fleuros. Apparently they are PERFECT for cuttings, but so far i have experienced nothing but problems with themm.

I have taken a few clones, placed them in a 50:40 moss:vermiculite mix under 24 hour light (i heard on some places its good to give ALL light) then read 18 hours is better so put the timer on to 5am-11pm both causing the leaves to turn yellow. While i did get SOME to root they died in the end.

I now have the clones on an 18hour on cycle in a vermiculite, moss, compost, sand mix (more or less a potting mix) and they still seem to be going yellow.

The plants are in a humidacrib with the lid clearly VERY misted and thus suggests HIGH hummidity. The lights have been placed from <1" - 5" from the lid of the humidacrib but still no luck.

I will try take some snaps later this arvo, but so far (assuming you understood my ramblings) anyone got ideas on whats going wrong?

Regards
Skiz

there yellowing because of nitrogen deficiency probably.. give them some "grow" nutes and yellowing should stop on the new growth.18/6 is best for clones..

seems how they got no roots i assume you mean foliar spray them?

I got some Nitrosol (aussie product) with NPK = 12.2 : 2.9 : 8.5....1/4 strength that ok?

ya u can try foliar spraying them. try one first n see if it helps as i dont do foliar feedin and not that familiar with it. i use a cloner machine(aeroponics) n i only see yellowing after 12+ days when there are only small roots showing. Im also a first time grower so this just my opinion from advice i was given.... check out my grow n see if there yellowing like mine are. good luck

mate to be honest i wouldnt care if your just starting our or your pro, ill take all the advice i can get :) ...so thanks for your replies.

I gave them a VERY weak foilar spray so ill see if that helps. If not i have enough plants left to maybe try a couple more times....

That said if the plants are in the humidicrib (best picture i could find shown below, but mine doesnt have a light built in) how far should my flueros be from the top (remembering that there is about a 7" gap between the plants and the top)? My lid is on and the vents are closed so it stays humid, with a 18hour light cycle. The lights are 2x Sylvania Growlux Tube 4ft 36w. (will try get pics asap as all threads tend to harp on pictures and how important they are)

GetDynamicImage.aspx?path=propkit.jpg

EDIT:
Unless i looked at the wrong pictures, your setup contains MANY leaves per plant. As far as i know (and from all the non related cuttings i have made) only two leaves per cutting should ever be present or TOO MUCH water is lost?

Those leaves have actually developed since putting them in.. as i do have some roots now!!!. I have read to that you want to cut fan leaves because of transpiration. and also read you shouldnt..... read Al B fucts posts on cloning he is "THE OG" of growing on this site

I tried to clone without humidor not too sucessful i think it would work if i use less soil and more pearlite

well sir...i think we have the problem lol. Because my originals were so pussy the only thing i really have to cut are the fans :( They are quite small however....really cant make heads or tails about it tbh.

Bloom nutrients will help the cuttings develop roots also.
I have a few issues with using nutes before rooting has occured. My understanding of plants is that without roots they can't really take up much nutes at all (even foliar application) That said i am open to all advice so if my current batch doesnt work ill try bloom nutes.

while im no plant pro im pretty sure without some way to hold that moisture in you wont really have much luck. I mean especially if your using a nice hot HPS. If you dont want to pick up a lil box like the one posted a 2L coke bottle cut in half does wonders :) (have made hundreds of various fruit cuttings this way)

what are you using for water, city tap or R/o, or well?
Yes good old Sydney water (yer like all countries Ph is high due to the pipes....around 7.5-8) is in use, however i dont THINK this is the issue. I used normal tap water on my normal plants and didnt have problems from it. Not to mention as its only to mist the place up i wouldnt imagine the ions actually being transolacted across the leaf? (ie. the ph shouldnt affect the plant in such early stages)

Now with all posts responded update time :P

I checked on my babies tonight and once again the outlook isnt good. Im thinking it may honestly be my lights. When i took some cuttings before and left them in the bathroom upstairs (north facing window) they were fine...started to root and then i built my "grow room" and moved them to the lights. Since then...nothign but f**king problems!!!!!

From the pictures does it look like maybe not enough light?...not enough heat?.....to much water?....not enough water?.....*another mind f**k as to why*

Dead leaves.jpg some leaves that fell off with a light "poke"

dying.jpg Setup. As you can see the light is about 10-15cm away from the actual plant due to the lid.

Lid off.jpg As you can see...not looking to healthy. Leaves maybe too large?

ma_pa.jpg This is ma/pa...as you can see not the most spectacular specimen. That said i took some bud from shim the other day and....gotta say it was a damn good smoke!!! A week to slow dry and 2 weeks to cure seemed to have made a half decent smoke :)

EDIT: From the last pic there of mumma/pappa would it be possible to work out what i actually got growing? It was just bag seed weed so i have no idea whats actually there and i wouldnt mind knowing all i can about them.

ALSO i saw Al be Fucts post on rockwool clones and based of what he said i think i may have TO MUCH water which is causing my plants to die? Well one thing is for sure....i need to invest in rock wool as Al be fucts getting decent roots within 10 days!!!

Shitty plants are gonna produce shitty clones period. But all the suggesstions above help. I use liquid kelp at about 10% strength for my clones. Helps keep em nice and green

Thats absolutely correct.. could never understand why alot of people starve their clones... It wont work, and if they survive, their on the brink of death.. senseless.

when clones start to develop roots they will take the stored energy from the fan leaves that is why your leaves are turning yellow then falling off.

Well seems how its all i gots atm kinda nothing i can do about it :) ...as i said though i want to get it down pat before i even think to invest in anything decent.

all things aside from waht people have said and form what i have read on other topics i need to:
1) get rock wool instead of soil presoaking the wool in some nutes. (ill do 50% population bloom and 50% population veg to see what gets better results...thats right mr science here :P )
2) not use as much water as i am.
3) Get a thermometer going to see what tempts im actually getting (are heating mats REALLY needed as im thinking i get about 25C for most of the day as the lights do generate a lil heat..not much but enough i think)
4) pray to god it works (The platypus is proof god gets high :P )

here's the thing bro you got no plant there, really! Yes, rockwool is a must for good hearty roots in cloning, just this last three months i've cloned over 40 babies and the one's that died was cuz the did not make my standards..... get a 15 watt grow light at wal-mart get a waterproof heating pad never put heating pad on highest setting...i found that mines works best on the second seclection ( medium )you can't leave the top completley closed there has to be air circ. for co2 intake also, leaf feeding is a must bro ( no roots right )i use G.H. 3 step mix best stuff on the market i also have very good tap water ph perfect ppm 60-80 depending..you need to look at some clone shots.... those of what you have are not even close...not being rude here mind you, trying to help.. here this a start for you DON'T use the powder crap!!!!!!! get you some dutchie's gel 120% you'll get root's with in 1 to 2 weeks crazy keep it warm like at 78 to 80 degrees in the dome so that the stoma's can feed the plant.. done deal thats a RAP!!!!

Yes yes, rock wool has been bought today so will setup new clones this afternoon. AS for the amount of cloning material i have.....while i can see the norm is to include large amounts of plant, i dont think i can really afford to be to generous as the mother is tiny enough as is. I think ill take a few cuttings from her (like one or two) then put her under the same light cycle as the clones so she goes back into veg (its already a hermi so not like its gonna matter).

Today at the hydro store i saw them selling a medium with 80% nitrogen in it (not urea based) and claims to support all other nutes needed for growth. This any good or will i get some serious burn from this?

Did anyone in here actually look at the cloning pictures?Mabey Drx " DRxHYDRO here's the thing bro you got no plant there, really!" When you snipped your plant you cut leaves off you didnt get the actual genetics of the plant held in the actual branches and center stalk. Also when you clone you will have sets of leaves to reference on how big to make your clone... Not to mention snipping the leaves on your clones so that they are round shaped rather than outstretching leaves. Good luck!
