Damn it's hot in here..............

Need the advise from you guys who have been there, done that....
I'll make short... 2x4x7 tent,400 watt air cooled light. Need to buy a centrifugal fan this week. Sooooo....I already decided on a 6" with a speed controller for noise. QUESTION: Should I invest the money in a good fan with low noise or can I get away with buying a little less expensive one and just insulate it and box it up for noise reduction. 56 cubic feet total..small tent. Thanks to all you experienced growers...learned a ton and my first grow WILL be sucessful, thanks to you guys..........

to be honest, providing a good brand centrifugal fan with a decent bracket on it, is mounted tightly, and you could put some rubber gaskets over the screws/bolts , use insulated ducting, and straighten the ducting out so its not so rippled, it will be alot quieter than you think. and if your still not happy, buy a silencer for the exhaust.

if however a slight hum or whir is a concern and could threaten your grow, then an acoustic fan may be ideal with minimal noise. but naturally the price reflects that.

oh and another thing.. get yourself a fan speed controller. its not always needed to have it running at full bore.. if you can keep it idling, then again this will bring the slight noise down.

A good fan will save you heartache when the cheap one craps out on a Saturday night just when the light goes on and the hydro store isn't open until Monday. You think it's hot now. A 6" fan is probably overkill though, you can easily use a 4" fan for your small tent. Does your tent have openings near the bottom? So that air coming in the tent is situated near the bottom, forcing hot air up and out.

Is your existing reflector sealed? Does your ducting for your light pull cool air from outside the tent through the reflector and out? Are you using the fan to push or pull air? Most fans are much more efficient at pulling air than pushing it. If your light is not sealed it will have difficulty pulling the air because of the low backpressure caused by the size of your tent. That is of course dependent on how tight the tent is and the rated CFM's of your fan.

What makes you feel that 4"' would suffice? Amount of cfm's? Yes there are flaps on the bottom and was hoping for passive intake. The tent is right by a great window and the exhaust has to travel no more than 5 feet if that. I"m going to use a seperate fan for carbon filter. So do you feel a 4'' (cfm"s???) can pull the air through the light and out? Thanks for the help
