Never heard of them, but that doesn't mean shit. Personally I would go with something that is from a bigger company that you know hopefully isn't going out of business and has a nice warranty policy. I would also get it local so if it does take a shit you'll be able to get a new one same day. At least my shop will swap anything out in a year with no ??'s asked. Maybe I pay 5% more then online, but to me it worth the few $$

i second this. the ballast is probably made in china or something. granted for that price it makes sense because you would probably pay a bit more for a quality ballast from a reputable company. they're worth it in the long run and when this one craps out you'll have fun trying to get a hold of the company for any support.

if you are just trying to keep costs down then this one will probably work fine and the price is good.

i now swear by nextgen ballasts they rock! they are pretty pricey but worth it in my opinion. lumatek ballasts are really good too for the price. happy growing!:weed:

if it is UL underwritten on the ballast that will give you the quality / specs to compare to the one with Nordies on the side of it....

thanks guys...it seems like a cheap mass produced system, and more or less im looking for people to say something like "HELL NO THOSE ARE GARBAGE. NEVER BUY EM" or something to that degree.

has anyone else had any experience with this type of system?

i think for the price im just going to go for it. just want to make sure its not going to crap out half way through the first crop

No experience with that system but I can tell you that MH has been used. The HPS also looks used. I wouldnt buy it. Check HTG, they have lumatek systems with aircooled hoods for under 300 bucks.

You could always go the homebrew way if your strapped for cash like me. Magnetic ballast and HID lighting have been around for ages. The wheel can only be re-invented so much. DHID, Now that's a different story. As an electrician I've replaced outdoor HPS flood lights that contain the same exact hardware as the "hydroponic" varieties and they last up wards of 10yrs without a hiccup just a few lamp changes. You truly get what you pay for when it comes to electrical hardware. But if you build it yourself you know it work and even better, You'll know how to fix it. :p

Cheap project box.
Ballast and cap kit.
Mogul socket.
Cheap lamp.

Good Luck M8!
