Prep'ing a New Grow Room

Howdy, folks! I've got a spare bedroom, 12ftx12ft, that I have been vegging a test run grow in, but I need some advice/help with getting it all ready for a Real Grow.

The house is a rental, so I can't make any Major Changes, and it's OLD, so no central air & heat. Our landladies trust us, so for the most part, they ignore us. (No surprise visits or anything like that)

I'll take some (crappy camera phone) pix of the room, but it's pretty basic: tile floor; center ceiling fan/light fixture; closet; double windows in one wall; doors in the other 3 walls.

I've got a 1000w MH/HPS light, 5 gal nursery containers, a fan and a small window a/c unit.

I live in south Texas, so heat and pests are probably going to be my biggest problems, and I'd sure appreciate ANY and all help y'all might be able to give me!

Thanx in advance! :weed:

Why just one 1kW lamp? Why not 4? :) You got the room!! So I guess, what's your questions?
I guess the first thing would be, what do you use to clean the room with?

And in answer to your question, I'm poor and damned lucky to have the ONE light! :-P Also, the room will have to do for vegging AND growing, at the same time.

I've got a homemade worktable that I do the vegging under, with packing blankets to use as a table cloth/curtains to keep the fluoro light IN. (That's another question ~ the seedlings can be in the HPS light during the "day," right? I keep light on the veggies 24/7)

Also, I'm starting a home biz that accounts for my usage of the grow equipment ~ flowers and plants in unusual containers ~ and need room for storage of those containers, seeds, ferts, etc.

But, anyway, FIRST, I need to clean the room, and need some suggestions on cleaning solutions, pesticides and anything else that a guy would normally pay attention to when prep'ing a grow room.

And thank y'all for the replies!

if its a mess....clean it like a regular room, mop the floors and repaint the walls flat white. Store your ferts and what not in the closet and section off a corner of the room to veg/flower in, then the rest of the space can be used to store your other plants. How many MJ plants were you planning on growing? Do you have a backyard you could use as well? if so just veg inside then transplant outside so they get a good 12/12 cycle during flowering

heard some people talking bout sulfer burners to help kill off mildews before a grow. might wanna check that out to help fight any powdery mildew problems in the future.

Glad I caught this thread... I'm from Texas, it's where I started growing. As mentioned before you need to prevent powdery mildew! It sucks! Powdery mildew is preventable though. It stays dormant until it has plant material to feed off of. You need to either us a sulfur burner or clean the floors and walls and ceilings really well to prevent it from showing up. Do you have carpet in the room? If so shampoo that shit really well, if not bleach your floor if possible. I would use bleach on the walls and ceilings and vents and everything! That is easily your biggest concern, powdery mildew is impossible to combat when you're deep into flowering. It will ruin your bud, and it thrives in hot Texas weather.

Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna be doing my grow in the hot southern TX too.
