PC Grow box build (Sorry 56K people)

Any comments appreciated. Stick around this will be a grow journal when I get done and pop some clones in here.

So it starts, I am on craigslist. I read " free computer does not work." Ok its one block from my house. I am bored so I go get it.
Its a regular PC thats got a fried Motherboard in it. I open it up and gut the insides out. Once I got it taken apart I smoked a joint. I think the weed made me decide I was gonna make a Stealth PC Case, and grow some herbs.

Ok So starting out I have stripped the case to frame.

After you get as much room cleaned up in the case what you should do is to start to cover the insides with reflectors. What I chose to use is a 3 dollar automotive visor that i got at Wal-mart and foil tape. I cut the visor to fit the cover of my computer case. Used the foil tape to hold it in.

Now this case had 6 Pc fans in it from small to large. They were dusty and old but they work. I powered them all up, they run great and I will aim for using them all.
These small ones are low profile and will work good to seal of the front. I had to demolish the cd drive to get the face of it and not the drive itself I need one more hole to fill up and its all set.

As you can see they should work good. I also have a large fan front and low and rear and high in the case.

I gutted the power supply. I wanted to supply my power via the original cord so I opened the power box up removed the boxes board and modified the power to come straight in. I bent the case of the power box over for more room and to clean the box up. It also opened up so i can use that fan. The black/white/green wires are input for my lights.

Smoke break is a given, and its back to work.

So now you have a reflective box. Its now gotta be sealed up and then we can start on how to set up the lights.

I used a visor section to cover all the holes on the back up. My stealth needs are kinda non existent so i am kinda in this for fun. If you need stealth you could salvage the plugs and glue them in so they look like a real computer.
I do it this way just to seal light leaks. I use the visor shiny side out and foil tape it tight over all the holes.

So finish up some reflective coverings. This is the front.

Its shiny, kinda hard to take decent pics of right now.

Next task for me will be the lighting. I think 2 100 watt cfls will work just dandy, if not I can change that up easy enough. Anyone have any ideas i would like to here them.

I will be posting pictures up as i go but would like some feedback as to how you all think its coming together. And any ideas people may have.

NICEE!! Good shit man, I was going to build something like this but decided against it when I couldn't order autoflower seeds. At the time, I didn't realize you could grow anything in there and just flower early.

I like the mylar and ventilation, and if 56W did it for my plant 200W should work fine for you lol. You can make a nice business for yourself selling these things on ebay. Once you got the lights hooked up, you can sell it for $150-$200. Throw in some odor blocker and perhaps a mini hydro setup and sell it for $300.

That looks cool man, ur gonna need some small plants though.

I think your lights sound good but u could look into T5 strip lights. There fairly new give about twice the output in light tha regular T8 strip lights. I just thought that seen as ur grow area is so small there low profile could be usefull. U can get them from 5ft to about 8" so u might find somethin.

Are u modifing the computer power supply to run the vent fans?

Looking good, hope to see more

Thanks everyone. I am looking into lights and some clones so we'll see how it goes. Updates in real time so stay tuned.

nice work man i just finshed mine. i will be watching this forsure and for the lights let me know what you pick and how they work because i am at the same point as you. and so far every one says 4 26 watt cfls 2 5600k and 2 2700k and if i can i only want 2 in there anyway. keep us updated peace

Multiple 26W CFLs are the way to go as far as efficiency is concerned; they sure as hell beat one big high wattage CFL in terms of lumens per watt.

As for color temps, you can just use all >5600K CFLs for vegging (6500K is best) and all 2700K CFLs for flowering. It might be beneficial to mix them up, but I wouldn't do half and half. Perhaps 3 of the proper color to one suitable for the other grow phase, at least in my opinion. Hmmm, what do you think PH? Half and half, 3:1, or no mixing at all?

from what you say it sound like i should put 4 26 watt 2700k lights in there and i am going to use atleast one 5600 for a week or to for the veg any way thanks for your input peace:bigjoint:

Nahh you gotta use the 5600K lights for veg. I would say use 3 5600K and 1 2700K for veg, then switch to 3 2700K and 1 5600K to flower.

I was thinking that two bigger 100 watt cfls are what i will use, i get more out of them cause i will use less space. Start at 12/12 fox farm soil in a party cup or maybe a party cup hempy bucket. I am debating on a 1 month veg cycle and scrogging the hell out of it. Like I said stealth is not a requirement so if it got to big i can ditch the cabinet. But I wanna see how much i can get in a small space.

Yeah for a smaller case like yours, two big CFLs are the way to go as you can't really fit 3-4 26Ws in there.

I wonder if the plants will fit after 1 month of vegging if you get some really vigorous growers in there . That's probably a good thing though as you can always just move them to a bigger space like you said.

I heard of foxfarm soil and its organic goodness before, but what does the 12/12 mean when you refer to soil?

No, 12/12 is hours of light dark cycles. That means i want to start 12/12 from the beginning, but i am debating on letting them veg 18/6 for a few weeks to get them trained.

Oh OK I never heard of that one before. Very interesting.. I did a search and am now reading about it. Looks like it works pretty well for one big cola in a tiny space.

Yeah if you start at 12/12 you can get your plant to stay small. I figured if i can get it trained pretty small, it will have a good chance at yielding decent. My plan is to get a small clone and top it to make new shoots and to super crop it and tie it down and scrog it. Basically three types of training all in one to get the yield up. Hopefully when said and done i can manage an ounce off it.

Going to the store today for lights and such. Should have pics up in a few hours of my decisions and what i have done. Next is finding a good clone. Its hard to find just one. And i have no need for more. But i am looking.

I'm building my first grow box and would like to know the best wood to use. Its gonna be 36" high 26" wide and 18"deep.

Ok heres how were doing this. Go here and pick 3 strains. Come back here and post up why you picked them and what they are. I will take your ideas and decide what to grow in this thing. Its on, you tell me what to grow. Three things:

Its small space, so figure that when your browsing.
Its gotta be trained so no autoflowers.
I hate feminised seeds.

Thats said lemme know what your picks are and why you pick them i will grow what the people ask for.
