Do I really need an air-cooled reflector

Greetings to all: Just starting a grow tent(2x4x7) in the basement and was wondering if I ran a 400 watt lighting system in that size of tent, with a intake and exhaust fans, will the light still need to be cooled down more. Should I invest the money in a air-cooled reflector? And how many plants can fit in a tent that size comfortable? Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate it............

It's nice because it lets you get the plants much closer to the bulb. If you have issues with vertical space, it's really a godsend. I have my plants an inch or two from the lens and they love it. No heat issues whatsoever. I would probably put 8-10 plants in that space, but it's really preference.

I grow in 4x4x7 tents with a 600 watt light, the only way I can do without the air cooled hood would be 2 6 inch fans. One pushing in the bottom and one pulling out the top.

With the vented hood I have one 6 inch and one 4 inch. The six pulls air through the light, the 4 pulls through the tent.

If your trying to go cheap, buy a reflector hood and two six inch fans. If you cant get rid of the head, go buy a ac hood, the only waste will be the wing and you can probably get half of that back from craigs list.
