so in england ive heard about these infared choppers causin alot of arrests. i plan on growing a small batch of plants under a few 40w florouesent lamps. will this give off enough heat to be detected to the point where it would warrant them searching my house ? ( i dont mean i warrant to come in )

um.. those choppers will detect big ass lights like the 1000w hps's and all.. if they were looking for a couple of 40w's they would be barging into every single house because of their household lights :/.. no worries bro

infrared sensors have no way to tell the difference between a 1000 watt light and a 1000 watt space heater. you're at absolutely no risk with a couple of hundred watts of light and i seriously question whether anyone has been caught by infrared with less than a couple of thousand watts.

this is what i thought but id rather look like abit of a dick asking a stupid question then staring at metal bars. id only be planting like 3-5 planrs at a atime. my grow space is like 2x2ft is two 40w flos enough ?

im from the the UK also mate, i use 2 600w hps lights for most of the crop and add another 1000w hps light for the last few weeks. Iv been raided before for other things but they obviously found my crop , i got charged released and started again, they'v never paid me a call since. i also live in a very rough place one of the worst in the country and the helicopter is out every night. So believe me when i tell you, you have nothing to worry about. It costs too much money to put the helicopter in the air to search for little worthless crops. there looking for the chinese/vietnamese who are smuggled over to crop out full houses where everylight is a 1000w hps and they have 15 or so lights in the house. Youv just fell into the trap of listening to what the government/police force say. There full of shit and basically just want you to be terrified. I wouldnt bother with those 40w florouesent lights tho, iv seen them in action and there the worst things iv ever seen, you might aswell just light a candle, my advice get 1 400w/600w hps light that will do you up to say 6 plants and aslong as you keep the air flow good you should be cool mate

i wouldnt worry too much about it dude, they seek heat not the light and the flours wont give out the heat they look for. but its still scary when you hear a chopper over the house lol.all part of the buzz good luck.

yes i live in a shitty area too ( hackney ) and im only using flos because i can get them free but i could add more? i just got told that 2 was enough. and about the me falling into the trap thing, i know they are looking for massive operations ect just rather be safe then sorry

I doubt infareds have convicted any grower. Unless you were setup in a greenhouse outside maybe somehow.

But if there is enough heat to go through the roof from your bulbs, then your roof would be on fire. Only my theory, I don't know EXACTLY how infareds work.

And yeh mate you could use alot more, i personally would cover all the space above my plants with as many flos as possible, i was under the impression that is what you need to do with them to get a good result compared to 600w hps lights.

but like i say i see flo's as the devil and aint to clued up about there capabilities.

what they look for with the infrared is a concentration of heat coming from one spot out of your house. they can't see through walls, unless there's a lot!!!! of heat, and at that point, yea... your house might be on fire. if you are really worried, which you shouldn't be with just a couple floros, you can always vent out the dryer vent, and just say you are drying clothes. they just look for a lot of heat coming out of one weird concentrated spot.

definitely not enough light. you need about 400 watts of fluorescent lights or a 250 watt hps.
