I saw the misery coming last June and took the appropriate steps. Hide the $$$$ overseas...

Now it's just a slow motion train wreck...but I'm safely in the bleachers... but still hoping the wreck can be averted.

that hope is fading though....
DUDE, LOOK OUT! There's some liberal creep sawing the legs off the bleachers!

My bleachers are on another continent...protected from the misery being inflicted here.

The wife and I were just joking last weekend.... ever hear the joke.....The difference between Canada and the USA is.... The USA is a country with a govt. ... and Canada is a Govt. with a country?

We took it all back last weekend with chuckles and wine.

Thank Gawd I had the presence of mind to pick up 50 acres in Canada..... they passed us a few months ago as more "economically free" than the USA for the first time since they recorded data on it. That was BEFORE Obama welfare....

My head really wanted to buy a nice house in the Nederlands....but the logisitics of me being spread out on three Continents was too much ( I have land in S.A. as well).

I'm 80% unplugged economically in the USA right now.

Just waiting and watching to see if the USA will fall or not....

That's because you think the money I earn is some sort of community fund... it isn't. I pay my taxes...that's all that is required.

I'm a patriot not because of where my money is or isn't....but because I wish the country to PROSPER....and Obama does NOT.

wow something that i agree with cracker on.....Thats unusual....Obama has not taken into consideration the people. He is very much into creating a America where work is no longer a good thing. Free hand outs is what its all about, also I can not believe we have a president who apologizes for the actions of America to other countries. He wants to please everyong but his own people...

Liberalism in itself is a denial of human nature. They try to legislate against the individual and natural impulses....hence all of the friction which occurs anytime their policies actually become law.

That's why Capitalism always outproduces socialism/communism.... it goes with the natural flow of human desires....the others do not.

I've said it before and I will say it again...Libertarians are dreamers and their utopia is only possible 200 years ago....time to wake up and realize what century it is.

Fuck that!!! I want to go back to an Amish style of existence. Simpler and free from the stresses and excesses of modern life. J/K. I agree that we need govt. I agree that we need some social programs. These shouldn't be without provisions. Welfare for example. I think we need it, and I think it serves an important purpose. It's so abused though it's absurd. There should be a maximum amount of time you can be on it (similar to unemployment) and there should be more focus on educating some of the folks taking these handouts. Make them get their GED or get a vocational certification or something. Perhaps require some form of public service (some states already do this). :leaf:

Tell me how a fireman making 48,000 a year with a wife who works in a laboratory making about $16 an hour are able to get food stamps. :bigjoint:

Hey, some more agreement to be had.

I actually do have quite a libertarian streak in me, but the ideas seem to fall apart when applied nowadays. And even though I am a 'progressive', I also believe that we need to reign in welfare, fuck, I even like RickWhite's idea of workfare (for those physically capable of working). I do not think that I should have been given food stamps (I am unemployed but still have some money left in the bank, I have not used them and never will but applying for them let me get an $80 discount on my OMMP card). I am a proponent of capitalism and oppose hardcore socialism. I want competition and 'survival of the fittest' to some degree, but I also want a minimum safety net for the citizens who deserve it.

So next time, before any of you use 'progressive' disparagingly, keep in mind that I simply want things to progress. How we do that often coincides with ideas from both of the corrupt parties we currently have in power!

I think the term "progressive" is too broadly applied and means different things to different people. You're right, progressive sounds great. It's got that warm and fuzzy sound. Just as some crazies have hijacked the tea party movement, some evil-doers (ya like my Bush era conservative moniker?) have done the same to the progressive movement. I'm for progress. I love technology and science. I just don't want servitude disguised as progress. That's what scares me about the current agenda in washington. Not a damn one of our beloved politicians can be trusted IMO, and believe it or not I'm not a paranoid conspiracy nut (no offense to any paranoid conspiracy nuts.;-)). It just doesn't sit right with me.bongsmilie

I'm no conspiracy theorist either, but I am at least 99% with you that not a one of them can be trusted, truly. Hell, if I got into that position, I'm not even sure I could trust myself....shit is complicated, especially after a good harvest gets cured...

EDIT - I should work on defining what my form of progressive is a little better, true. Way too obtuse and broad....

I was exaggerating a little bit (a very little bit). :hump:

I'm sure some of them can be trusted. :peace:

Public risk for uninsured........ using the E.R. as your primary care, having a catastrophic injury or illness. both instances cost alot to the tax payer and insurance companies because if you were to keep yourself healthy, the chances are less for this to happen. which in turn keeps the costs lower. funny how if you maintain something it tends to last longer and is cheaper to maintain in the long run, it applies to healthcare as well.

My question to Cracker is why is he still in the USA ??????? If I really thought the country was going down hill and already had land in two places out the country as well as my earning...why the hell would you still stay:roll: ...oh well this the internet people can be and do what ever they want. I will just be me

Because I still have properties here. I am waiting to see if the ship can right itself.

I also have had a personal responsibility for the last year and a half which keeps me in one location. Otherwise I usually travel three or four times a year, just for kicks.

I will say that certainly my obligation will be done by 2102. If Obama gets reelected.... Cracker will go. We've decided after much consultation on Canada, wich is now the land of opportunity compared to the USA. Besides, one side of my family hails from Nova Scotia.

I have been there...looked around...I have friends down there...great fishing...but I'm over fishing and have been for years. Big boats all that junk...been there done that....I live in Florida...I want seasons again.

That has been the contention. My wife has only lived in tropical climes....and Canada is a BIG step. We've made many trips and picked up property years ago when the dollar was giving us a 35% advantage....timing...like everything.

That was the equation and discussions.... take the huge profit and sell....and buy elsewhere...or simply put up a house on the acreage.

I just have to promise to fly her out whenever she wants in the winter back to one of our southern places. That was the deal. It still could change.... I like to stay open to possibilities. You first have to set up to take advantage of it...if it comes along.

So Costa is sweet, and we can stay down there whenever we wish with a phone call....but meh...we've never called so...we won't be moving south.

Actually I wanted a place in the Nederlands...

I've been in FloriDUH for about 30 years.... but I spent all my summers here since I was 2.

It was Florida back then.... a much better place. Back when the beaches were all public and you could actually see it without giant condos everywhere.

I finally moved inland 20 years ago to get some space.
