i voted no because the actual root mass of most hydroponic applications are the same size or smaller than most soil/soiless grows, with incredible results, yet you never hear about them being 'rootbound'. If you took a healthy plant from a small DWC setup, stuck its roots in a 2 gallon gallon container, sprinkled some dirt on it, and took a picture of it you would have 35 replies in 10 mins from people exclaiming ROOTBOUND!, even though the plant was doing just fine with that same mass of roots. I think that in extreme cases it is possible to rootbound a MJ plant, but it is rare and 95% of the "am i rootbound?" posts I see aren't even close.
