I woke up this morning and my 600 watt cab light was on but the fan was off. While working on the Cab yesterday I accidentally plugged the light into a plug that was not on the timer. Fan turned off light didn't, plants were fried and the box was hotter than hell. This scared the shit out of me. EVERYONE should have a thermal shut off switch connected to their lights. I knew I should have had one and I planned on getting one soon. I will be picking one up tomorrow, the plants can be replaced, it could have potentially been much worse. EVERYBODY BUY A THERMAL SHUT OFF SWITCH PLEASE!!!

I never worry about temperatures. Ihave UPS battery backups and even a small PC in my grow room. If temps climb above (or below) my alarm levels I get an email on my smart phone. I can remote desktop in (if away) and even check the stats of everything remotely. You might want to add this to your thermal shutoff switch list as well:
http://www.temperaturealert.com/Temperature-Alarm.aspx

If you don't have a wireless smoke alarm and fire extinguisher, you might as well get those too. NO ROOM should be without!

WHY THE FUCK MUST I READ THIS THREAD because your a dumbass and dont know what you have pluged in fuck this WAS A WAIST OF MY FUCKING TIME

I had a similar incident. I had the power go off in the middle of the night and come right back on. Well, my AC is digital and it has to be turned on manually. My light came back on but not the AC, lost 12 plants that were about 2 months old. Got up to 140 degrees and could have been way worse. If there was a fire I would have went down for those plants. I am going to get a HID light controller, they have them for $60-100 bucks. Wormsway has one for $105. http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=HLC104&AC=1 They will shut off the light when the temp gets too high, you can set that temp. They will stay off for up to 25 minustes, depending on which one you buy and then turn them back on after the set time. I wish I had one before I lost hundreds of dollars worth of plants. You could also get a plug in thermostat but the problem with that is there is no delay, as soon as temps drop the light would come back on.
I dont think this post is a reason to flame the OP. It is a good idea to have one in certain conditons and it was his experience.

Yeah it was a dumb move on my part, but I'm not perfect like some people. Moral of the story make sure this can't happen to you, doesn't matter how ya take the safety precaution.

I've been doing commercial HVAC work for almost 3 years, you can def cool anything down to whatever temp you want, it just depends on how much ya wanna spend? I.E. comercial walk in freezers in the desert.
