HPS size for closet

Would a 400 watt HPS be to much for a 2x4 closet for 2-3 plants? Should I go with something smaller? HTGsupply is the cheapest I could find. Also its fine having a light shipped to house I would assume sense lights arent illegal and neither is growing tomatoes indoors?

i have a 400w in a 2x6x8 closet and without the active ventialtion into the attic it easily surpasses 100 degrees. with the ventialtion it stays between 70-85

Do you think a 150-175 watt with a fan pointed at it would still be to hot? And if not would it be enough light? I mgiht just have to go with cfl.

it's not to do with a fan being pointed at it. it's about extracting all the heat they're giving off. else the fan will be doing very little than circulating the hot air around the grow room. tent, cupboard etc, if you're gonna use a hot HPS bulb you need to be extracting the air out of the grow area. you should have air extraction and fresh air intake HPS or no HPS though, lots of fresh air :)

Hmm, I don't know anything about setting up air extractions and intake. How could I set it up for a closet with sliding wooden doors? I was planning on just pointing a fan at it and leaving the door cracked open.

I agree with Tip Top Toker, without adequate ventilation your temp will rise much too high. If ventalation is not an option for you, Sun Systems offers a 150watt HPS with a real nice reflector for about $80.00-$90.00 plus shipping. This light will remain much cooler and I think it comes with the option of a glass lens to keep some of that heat in the reflector away from the plants. Air conditioners are always an option, but unless needed (large grows) it's sort of a hassel. Hope This Information is helpful. Happy Growing !

P.S. A 150 watt HPS will flower a single plant nicely, the lumen output on those lights is around 16000 initial lumens.

That sounds like what I would need BongFiend420. Would you happen to have a link for that light?
For food I was gonna get the 3 pack lb of Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz and Cha Ching, FarxFarm's trio of high-octane fertilizers. Hope this is right. Thanks for the awesome help.

If you are wanting to produce good dence buds then stick with the 400.A 250 is ideal for veg but when it comes to flowering it has not got the power to produce nice packed buds.A 400 hps will do 4 plants i would not do any more than 4 unless you going into sea of green and haveing single stalk buds.If you have only got a 400 then s.o.g may be the best way of thinking grow in small pots but grow alot with 2 week gaps between each set been flowered. This will mean that you will always have a good ammount to smoke a little more work but well worth it.If you do go with the 4 plants make sure that the plants have nice big tubs the bigger the root system can get the bigger the yeild will be. Good luck in your new venture make sure that you get the seeds of a good supplyer and you won't go wrong.....tyke..............

How could I set up air ventilation for 400 watt though? I don't have a clue on how to do that. Also I was planning on going with bagseed.

how is the cupboard located. is it flush into the wall etc. you could possbily cut a whole at the top and bottom, and glue/screw subtle vents/grills over them, and then have an intake fan attatched via duct tot he bottom and an exhaust at the top along with a carbon filter. although if the doors are sliding it could need to get more creative.

while leaving the doors ajar might be fine in terns of fresh air etc, you don't ever want to set your grow up in a manner that might compromise your safety, or the plants health, should an event arise. you want to be able to have someone walk into your room and you not have to move but know that your grow is safe unless they start opening doors etc.

It's on the far end of the house in a room. Just a regular closet in the wall with sliding wooden doors. The air conditioning unit is also in the closet. Its a big metal box with a tube going up into the ceiling and air filter inside the box. Maybe somehow I could set it up to include that in the air exhaust or intake? There is also an attic I believe.
