Pollen Lifespan

Hey Sub, I was wondering how long pollen stays viable. I have got many different answers. If you can send me a message, I had couple other questions

Well until sub gets here its your good friend grassified!

Pollen is usually good for a few months to a year in the freezer. of course this depends, some pollen I have found lasts longer than others, and yes, it does get to a point where the pollen wont work anymore, but thast pretty far down the road.

My friend swears by abusing his pollen through heat stress/freezer over the course of a year. Only the hardiest pollen spores survive, thats his theory anyway, but a lot of people are crazy, honestly, I dont think it helps.

Its actually harder to collect than you might think.
We had problems with small pieces of the male plant mixing in with the pollen. the moisture that is contained in these pieces will ruin the pollen if stored together.
WE had mixed results once the pollen was good the next time it wasn't so how you collect and store are crucial.
We use live male plants to do the deed.

I was thinking of starting a Pollen Bank, like a seed bank, but will have to a lot more experimenting. Figure I can start by selling pollen to dispensaries and see where it goes from there. I want a plant with 10 different strain of seeds on it!!!

Most owners are now changing there ways and most want the actual mother or father plant in hand so they can take there own clones because mis labeling is a huge thing in clubs.

I've had some pollen I collected back in November of 2008 stored in a plastic 35mm film cannister in the freezer. Just used it a couple of weeks back to pollinate a few selected lower branches on several plants. With in 2 weeks of dusting it on I had seeds large enough that they began to split open the seed pod.

Its totally doable Jack in the Bud I just relayed my experience with the collecting of it. Actual pollen stays viable for years if it dosnt get wet.

its all about collection and storage if done right it should last quite a while if done improperly its useless real quick.

I would also think that anybody in the market for pollen is doing it to make seeds to then sell the seeds. You wouldn't need or want someone else's harvested pollen.

Selecting a male to breed is part of the overall seed breeding business, so it probably wouldn't be something people would need, that is, a pollen dealer.

thanks for the answer sub 1 more ? what should a person look for in a male plant that would tell u its a keeper as i have been a clone only guy for the last 15 years and am just now starting to mess with seeds i have only bought reg seeds just so i can let some go as not to have to keep buying them
