seedlings need dome or not ?

Hi there.

Just got my 1st grow underway.

The seeds broke the surface on sat & iv had them in a homemade humidity dome so far{cut 2litrs bottle}

I have 2 seedlings, they are planted in 4 inch pots in bio bizz all mix.
both opend & showing there first set of true leaves.
Should i now remove this humidity dome or leave it on & put alot of holes in it ?

im using a 250w MH atm , its about 1ft fromt he pot base. Temps around 79/80f.

I did have the light higher the first day or 2 & they stretched quite a bit, so i potted up abit.

the problem is, i have zero humidity in my tent.

Ive read conflicting info on when to remove the humidity dome.

When do seedlings stop needing alot of humidity ?

Still learning as i go, but hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction on what to do at this stage.

If the first true leaves are there you should be able to remove domes but your gonna want to get some humidity in that tent or your gonna have slow stunted growth???

thanks man. Hmm, i dunno what to do on the humidity front. I ploughed quite a bit cash into my kit, so wont have money to buy a humidifier for another while.

& ive heard pots full of water is useless. But read a small bucket of ice is pretty good

A bowl/bucket of water placed in front of a fan will increase humidity, ice speeds this up you can also hang wet towels in the tent not as good as having a humidifier but will add humidity

it may also be that your ventalation system is moving to much air thru the tent basically removing your humidity???

Could be it mate, its a hvk 100 fan iv got and im in a dr60 {60x60x140cm}. So i think the fan is more than adequte if not too powerfull for the tent?? 175 m per hr it says.

And its just passive intake.#

With a oscilating fan on the floor of the tent blowing up onto my 250w mh at full speed.


Just leave them in the domes till they get a bit more foilage and can handle themselves ?

Let's just say that it's much better to have low humidity than high humidity. With high humidity, you are more prone to getting fungus and mold. To be honest, after my first grow I ignored the humidity since both of my gauges broke. I didn't have any problems during veg or flower or harvest. I did some research and couldn't find any definite proof where low humidity meant the end of the world.

Edit: Once the seeds sprout aka break the soil, I take them out of the dome.
