So Montana? Alaska? i dont think i could get expungmment. assault and batterys are violent crimes but without a gun so isnt larcney and breaking and entering. if you had a old record but stay out of trouble and only have the proper intentions what states if any could you live in and legally own a shotgun and get a hunting permit as a former felon.

Sensible Gun Registration Plan That Will Work

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners" and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus
Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals.
Vermont 's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent." Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves, so that they are capable of responding to "any situation that may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so," Maslack says Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any state .. it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has resulted in a crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation.

"
America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay taxes to support police protection for people not wanting to own guns. Let them contribute their fair share and pay their own way.

Do you realize that the police arn't legally obligated to protect Us-citizens- from harm. If a police officer who we pay and arm stands by and does not intervine while someone is hurt or killed he will not be arrested and he can not be sued for failuer to do his job.

I believe in personal protection, a leo's job seems to come to the scene after the fact and write a report about what happens... if your lucky! I will be happy when a criminal has to think twice about harming someone else, not that he is worried about a report being filed, that the citizen is likey to take imediate action against the assailant. An armed society is a polite society.

Afraid hell! I want to take her huntin.
Be a man and put the gun down. It's one thing if someone breaks into your house and you pull out a gun protecting your family and property.

It's another to walk around town with a gun.I've had guns pulled out on me over barfights. That's awesome when some hick pulls out his rifle and starts threatening to shoot.

Around here the scum are busting the door down and robbing homes during the day while folks are home. We need a few gunned down robbers to make the news, maybe it will slow them down a bit.

Dude WTF? Were you sitting in a room full of idiots smoking dope when you heard this?

They absolutely have a legal mandate to protect you. Even hear of something called "equal protection under the law"?

That being said, I think cops do more to prevent people from defending themselves than anything else. I pray for the day when all cops are replaced by technology. We now have the ability to monitor traffic and public areas through remote means. Cell phones in the hands of every citizen pretty much eliminates the need for patrols.

I'd like to see small squads of cops just watching computer screens and waiting for calls. In other words, responding when needed and doing their job rather than harassing people.

The problem with your "solution" is the cell phone won't stop a masked thug and neither will a camera. For that matter neither will a cop, all they can do is respond after the crime has happened...then it's too late...you could be dead.

In addition to the cell phone, a well armed peaceful person would have the ability to defend him/herself.

The cell phone is for reporting the shooting.

Here is a tip though - always ask someone else to call while you keep quiet.

On another note - if a guy isn't doing something that compells someone to report him he isn't doing anything wrong IMO.

Oh no! Its Crimerate Change!
Lets issue gun credits to all citizens and then pay those that wish not to use them. We can then sell those gun credits to other citizens that would like to carry more than one!
We can call it "Busta Cap and Trade".
