You can buy a cool tube and attach it to your bulb. I was wanting to get one now that I have an HPS, but coincidentally (when I was at the hydro store today), the guy that works there told me that they're not all they're cracked up to be because of the reflectors. The light that gets shone on the plants is very limited. And he said the vented hoods with the glass plate underneath the light are much better. I guess it's a matter of preference. And I know there are some DIY cool tube instructions on RIU somewhere. Maybe you could build one, eliminate the reflector and rely on mylar-lined walls to distribute the light.
 
i've also heard bad things about cooltubes efficiency. in terms of cooling it does exactly as it was meant. but i'm thinking about a new light so plan to actually research the best hood (best bang per buck though, i'm not mr rich :P)

saying that though, my plants don't seem to be doing too badly using it.
 
cheers chaps well got my new fan in there now which is much better as its a decent 1, had to put weight on the light to stop that from shaking so much!
was thinking about a cool tube or venter for the 400 when i get her going, but il see how it goes with this fan.
not sure what the crack is with the oldest leaves on a couple of the babies (kushes) check in the pics looks like their lacking in nitrogen, thinking i should have given them some bio earlier seeing as theyv grown so fast!! or it could be a PH problem?
il, work up to giving them full strengh nutes from now. see if they recover.

i just got a new fan too :) got myself a cheap and cheerful 12" oscilating from a rather cute girl in argos :P is that an oxymoron? :lol:

hopefully it'll be quieter and slightly less damaging than my current 30". my strawberry haze is being destroyed by wind-damage.

and i'm still feeding my cheeese clones of that size or slightly more, nowt but water and they're all as green as can be, so not sure if it's a def or what :S

either way..

yea man i cant put my finger on it. started going that way before their first feed so it cant be down to that, gonna post in the mj health problems.

there in the veg/clone tent at the moment and will remain there for a further 5 weeks until there's space in my flowering cab. they won't be going in until i've taken clones and sucesssfully gotten them growing in a small DWC bucket
 
sure have got it rigged up good there tip, thinking i might give topping a go on a couple of these. you ever tried it?
 
last good plants i topped i used uncle bens topping for 4 main colas, and it was feckin awesome! the one that was female grew stupid big ebfore it hermed (it was plain bad seeds)

i've also topped one of my strawberry haze once in my currnet grow and it seems a lot better than the non-topped one. i read that some strains take better to topping than others
 
havent been on in a while but heres an update, looking real good, had a little yellowing of the 1st sets of leaves due to leaving it a little late to feed but all new growth is good nice and green.
will be 4 weeks tommrow since sprout and im thinking of flowering maybe within the the week. bongsmilie
pics 1 and 2 are the kush, 3 is the rocklock and then sharksbreath!!

THought about it and im gonna be sticking them into flower as of tonight wen the light comes back on setting the timer for 12/12 :-P

cheers coral! just measured and the talllest is the sharksbreath at 13 inches,
the others are near enough the same,
im hoping with flowering this early theres more chance of them really beefing up.
ALso i'l be starting my lemon skunk when these are leaning towards being finshed and that will be my 1st outdoor attempt!

worst iv had done to me would be falling a kip at a party and having both eye brows chopped, covered in shaving foam and all sorts and the fuckers even stole my jeans so i walked home like that at around 6 in the morning, no pants with a bike lid on me head so no1 seen me :mrgreen:
 
haha, the real walk of shame :lol: i've never had anything done to myself, but me and my dormmate were pissed up, and an indian/english kid (not being racist :P just picture indian AC/DC ROCKSTAR!) from a couple years below wandered in absolutely mashed, and sat down on a spare office chair, to which we promtply gaffa taped him cus why not. now after about 20 minutes of fun banter and no hard feelings, we didnb't release him but rather wandered off, for more drinks in a different dorm, only to return to find he'd drunkenly wheeled himself down a flight of stairs, somehow got through a door after and was asleep toppled over on is dorm floor still stuck to the chair. those were some banging times :lol:
