Help needed HPS wiring

I have had this light sitting in the box in my garage for at least 10 years, it has never been installed. The light is a left over from my years of contracting, at that time I had qualified people to install such things for me.

I am now semi-retired and enjoying my HOBBIES & such, I would like to make a grow light out of this 150w wall pack HPS with the ballast outside of grow area away from plants. I have read many of the post on how to do it, and have a general understanding on how it is done.
(The brief & limited instructions stated: this is a multi-tap unit and can be used for either 120v, 208v, 240v, or 277v. I NEED TO USE FOR 120V)
Currently I am stuck on the wiring of the light, there are four (4) labeled wires coming out of the ballast they are labeled, lamp, com, 120v, & (another) com. Coming out of the bulb socket are the black & white wires, also the ground to the box itself. I have a short
3 wire heavy duty extension cord to connect & plug it in with.
Please advise as to the correct wiring, what wire goes where to connect, ect,… I don’t want to fry myself.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR HELP

Please see attached pic’s.

It was only after searching and reading here and over the net, either overlooking, or miss understanding what I read do I ask this question of you all...

does the ballast have a wiring diagram on the label? your instructions say it is a multitap but the ballast doesnt have taps for higher voltages.was this a sealed box?it sounds like a old box of parts left over so you may need more parts.most need a capactor & ignitor wired in as well as the ballast & lamp.almost ALL HPS lights have them but I have seen a small(70watt) security light that didn't.
if you are sure you don't need them, from the power cord, attach the green to ground, anywere on the chassis, the white to either comm terminal and the black to the term labeled 120v.the lamp socket has a black & white, black goes to lamp & white goes to the unused common.adding a ground to the lampholders metal reflector & attaching it to the ground on the ballast is a good idea as well.
a good idea is to add a male/female plug between the lamp and the ballast to make it easier to move-attach the male to the lamp.

again if this was not a sealed box that you just opened,I would be very careful as it could be dangerous to fire up w/out a cap & ignitor. a new unit would cost well under $100 & a small price to avoid a fire.

that is a magnetic ballast core.
it is missing both the ignitor and capacitor.
a close up pic of the ballast would help alot more than the wires

Thanks for your response, sorry it has taken a couple of days for me to get back with the additional information, I have been out of town and off line. Please see the pictures and diagram included............
The writing on the side of the Ballast states as follows:
71A8107-B Advance Transformer Co
INTERGRATED IGNITOR REACTION BALLAST
150w SSS HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM LAMP
120v 60mz 3.2a
Optional S2 or SSMFD
120v cap

….Thanks Again

look very closely at pic #2... see the diagram?

your ballast has a self contained ignitor.
the wire labeled lamp goes to the center pin on the lamp socket, one of the commons (it doesnt matter which one) goes to the threaded collar on the socket. th eother common goes to 120v neutral, and the 120v wire goes to 120v. pretty simple. looks like all you need is a lamp and some power

THANKS for the quick response and

YOUR SERVICE TO THIS COMMUNITY

I neglected to qualify myself as totally literate or ignorant to items dealing with electricity, I do however know enough to have much respect for it. With that said I have one last question.(I THINK)
You said “the wire labeled lamp goes to the center pin on the lamp socket”. Which wire would that be the center pin on the socket white or black? I took the socket apart & answered this one myself the black wire goes to the center pin.. I now have 3 sets of wires, 1. white= threaded collar/common,
2. black=center pin/lamp 3. 120v/other common. Did I miss something or do I need to cap off one of the sets of wires? It's all GREEK to me..... No I'M NOT SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER.

Thanks Again
PEACE & PROSPERITY
