just sent this to the dudes :

Honorable Justice Minister Nicholson,

I'm emailing to affirm my sincere opposition to the upcoming Bill C-15. Mandatory Minimum Sentencing continues to be a failure in America, with one in 99 of its citizens incarcerated; many for nonviolent crimes. Please count my vote and oppose Bill C-15, at all costs.

In the USA this has proven itself to be a difficult subject, on which opinions are poorly divided. It begs the question 'why is the subject of the legitimate, medicinal use of cannabis attracting more controversy than the death penalty'? As I'm sure you are aware, the "drug" in question is far less dangerous than many of the legally obtainable prescription medicines on the market, with far fewer side effects and completely devoid of the risks of addiction. In the United Kingdom, the former chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, Professor David Nutt, has repeatedly claimed that marijuana is significantly dangerous even than alcohol. In fact, JWD Henderson, former Director of the Canadian Bureau of Human Drugs, Health & Welfare has said that "[Cannabis] is really quite a remarkably safe [drug] for humans." In the face of these facts I fail to understand how passing a Bill like C-15 is beneficiary.

In effect, the bill is unlikely to change the number of Canadians actually using marijuana, but will almost certainly increase the crime rate and the number of prisoners. And of course, the side effect of having more prisoners is the necessity to spend more public money on the prison services, thus depriving all other areas of some amount of funding. It is my belief that the Canadian electorate, like so many across the world, will remember this kind of failing at the next election, not least at such a time of global economic fragility.

I urge you to think of those suffering from cancers, glaucoma, anxiety and many other life altering illnesses when making your decision on this bill. By opposing C-15, you have the opportunity to prevent Canada from regressing in terms of global society, and keep your country on a forward path.

Again, please count my vote and oppose Bill C-15, at all costs. Thank you for your time.

Yours with faith,

my name

my address.

bring on the free stuff! and also fingers crossed that the bill doesn't get passed

Im in, I'll type a letter here in a bit, probably not as elegant as the one above but I'll try my best. I really hope they dont pass such a harsh law, you'll end up with prisons like ours in the states that are full of ppl with weed charges, alot even being simpler possesion charges, ridiculous we cant see a bunk policy when it stares us in the face. Im a medical patient here in California, cant begin to tell you how much my quality of life has improved since being able to grow my own consistent medicine. We all need to put in more time changing the unfair stigma attached to marijuana, while people die everyday from tobacco/alcohol, caffiene is much more physically addictive than thc, please let them see the light...wish all of Canada the best of luck...PEACE!
