What would be a better investment?

Build a DIY bubbleponics system w/ MAYBE a 200W HPS light and use 208W of CFL's . ORRRRRR stick with soil and get a 400W HPS light?

and also, i've heard a lot of myths of if you veg your plants with an HPS theres more of a chance of them becoming hermies, is this true?

personally i would go with soil and 400 watt hps.. As far as hermies.......dont think so!!!!

That's an easy one.....soil and the 400 watt HPS. Light, is the key to good growth, above all, and the bubbleponics system will never be able to compete with half the lighting. And if you're just starting out, I definitely recommend soil until you get the hang of it, because it's alot more forgiving than hydro. One word of advice....don't buy cheap soil.LOL Get some Fox Farms, or ProMix, or something like that, and you'll be better off.

400w and soil, or 400w and bubbleponics. why 208w of cfl and 200w of cfl if you go w/the bubleponics. do you mean a 250w light btw? cuz im pretty sure a 200w hps doesnt exist. a 250w and 400w price difference is pretty small and i would think a 250w hps and 208w of cfls would be more expensive that the 400w and yeild alot less and....well, you get the idea.

forgot to mention-ive never heard that myth, but its 150% false. the only real ways to hermie a plant(that you can do, genetic hermies happen sometimes, but thats out of your hands) is to do it on purpose w/collodial silver to make fem seeds or light stress/leaks/interuptions imo.

i used to veg my plants with a 600 hps years ago, then i figured out you can veg with florescents.
but i never had that hermie problem you speak of.

i did hermie a few plants a while back by letting light interupt the 12 hours of sleep they needed numerous days out of the week.

Thank you all for the help, so yes i will most likely find a good 400W HPS light off ebay or somewhere, and of course use good soil. But a question about that, i heard foxfarm ocean forest is to harsh on the seedlings, should i start out with light warrior instead? on my last grow i used just regular soil and FF grow big and FF Tiger Bloom
