Some shrooms get rock hard when dried and are to hard to chew meaning you have to make tea or grind them and put them in gel caps.too hard to chew???
I will be selling some so I have to dry. They say some strains only shrink 50% I am going to ralphsters not 101. If anyone has grown Texas shrooms please get back with me.Dude don't trust Spores101. There are much better vendors out there.
As far as I know, all mushrooms shrink about 90% their wet weight and doubt this one would be any different.
Unless you're selling I don't see how this could be a bad thing anyways. In my 2 yrs of growing, It's always been the opposite for me: dried shrooms are chewy and wet shrooms are hard. But if you're concerned about the chewiness / taste, why don't you put it in a peanut butter jelly sandwich? or better yet, make mushroom chocolates..
Thank you for your input! I'm glad someone knew what I was talking about. I was thinking of getting a food dehydrator. What do you think of that? Also in a 64 qt monotuo system how do I flush when I pick my first crop or do they grow back automatic? Thanks! Also with drying, it might be hard with the quantity you are trying to grow but I would get a razor and slice the stems in half long ways all the way up to the cap. Never cut the cap, and would open them up and lay on paper towels with a WEAK fan on them. Putting them between two screens works well too, just when the fan is blowing on them the small ones tend to roll around so you gotta have something to catch them. Do that for a day or two, and if you put on paper towels I would flip them a few times each day as when they dry they tended to stick to the paper towels. After that just put them into a dessicant chamber. Larger chambers seemed to keep my mushies looking good, my smaller ones ended up making all the mushies turn dark purple almost black, this will also happen if you put them in the camber right away...at least it did for me. Didn't ruin them I don't think, were still the strongest cubies I think I've ever had. Prolly just because they were freshly dried and not shipped everywhere.
All of my mushies were chewable. Nothing too hard and I let them dry completely cracker dry.
Thanks for explaining flushes. Just keep it humid and they will come back in a smaller batch each time about every two weeks right? Do you think if I lay them all on news paper and let one of those square floor fans blow on them that would dry a large number? Thanks y'all for the tricks of the trade!I wouldn't worry about a dehydrator unless you don't have room to let your mush air dry.
I'm not sure how long they would take to dry in a dehydrator but a day or two with some air flow across them will do the job.
and a flush is a harvest..after you pick what you've got, it will take about a week to see new pins forming.
Thanks bro. Cardboard it is.i wouldn't put them on newspaper, ink would probably get all over your shrooms
they seem to stick to paper towels also
I like to dry them on cardboard, they still stick but the cardboard doesn't attach itself like the paper towels
Thanks allot bro! Here is a link of exactly what method I will be doing x2 monotub. I'm still a little undecided on what strain I will be growing. Tell me what you think of this set up. It looks sweet to me! OZZ's Cubensis Horse Poo Pictorial - Cannabis Culture Forumsestesj....Good point with the trash bag. That is exactly what I do. I use a black bag, keeps a perfect seal and keeps light out of the sides. Plus, they come sterilized and are rolled up so no air/contams get in. I never used lysol on the bag or anything. The first time I used the black bags I also grabbed them from my garage and they were covered in dust and I had no problems. I'd say just clean the outsides of them, and open it when you are in your clean/lysol sprayed room. I also use one with the lid. I cut a square out of the plastic lid, cut a square in a different trash bag and tape a clear ziplock or something over the hole. just put that on top and put the lid with the square cut out over the clear part. It allows for light to get in and no air flow. - If you do this method, you have to fan around 2 times a day. 3-4 times might be better, I got lazy and did like 1-2. Forgot sometimes for 2 days with now fanning or light and nothing bad happened. But I have a friend that did a monotub for a while and loved it. Just had a light on a timer and never had to really do much of anything to it.
As with a food dehydrator....I used one a little on my first grow. Turned it off after a few hours because I realized it was hot. So I'd say get one that doesn't heat or I hear you can just take out the heating element. It was my bro's dehydrator so I didn't want to break it. Also, you'll probably have to cut out a screen to put over the layers of the dehydrator. Mushies shrink a LOT and you don't want them falling through and getting stuck inside the thing.
As for flushes and quantity. For me it was my 1st flush would be second smallest. My 2nd and 3rd flushes were the biggest, and the 4th was the smallest. Sometimes a 5th which was very small as well.
Also, another good way to dry that worked well for me was I made a big bag-like thing out of screens. Put the mushies in there and fanned, mixed them every few hours and kept the fan on them. You can turn the fan on much higher but since they're all clumped together they tend to stick together a lot and still dry fairly slowly. They really get pretty damn sticky when they're drying. I thought it was bad at first until I had some help by some fellow RIU'ers and Shroomery'ers
