Switching my lighting schedule

Hey RIU,

I have some babies i sprouted from seed, they are ages 2 wks old and 1 wk old....I have had them on 18/6 light schedule, i was wondering if i can get some input about 24 hr lighting. Would it be beneficial? and would it bother the plants to change the lights from 18/6 to 24 hour light? thank you!

I found that if u change the schedule from what they are used to as babies, it stresses them. Don't be impatient let em rest a little

i think most ppl agree 18/6 is best. ur plant and equipment need rest and its possible it might stress it.

For your own reference, you can change the lighting schedule while in veg, without too much undue stress, once or twice. Do not do this in flower!

OK so how you would recommend switching from a 18/6 daytime light schedule to a 18/6 nighttime light schedule? I mean, I just want to switch them to a 'nocturnal' lights on schedule to use the heat the HID produces to conserve heat in an outdoor shed... I do have a heater in the shed on a thermostat, but I want to keep the heat bill down, so using the HID lights at night would really help with that.

How should I go about switching? Have a dark period, then switch, or just keep the light on through till the new cycle starts?

I don't want to stress them. They're doing sooo well right now, but the stink in the closet is getting too much. No options there for indoor odor control. I NEED to move them into my outdoor shed room.

Just give them light right up until their new dark period - better than giving them extra darkness and possibly triggering hormones (flowering) you don't want.

That does sound the least stressful and smoothest transition into the 'nocturnal' cycle...
I have heard others say that you should give them 24 hrs of dark before switching... but that seems problemmatic for reasons you mention.

Will I expect to see much stress from them switching to the nightime light's on cycle? How would it show - Just a slowing of growth?
