UK Indoor growers are Fucked !

Hi folks.
Well i feel the time has now cought up the the UK grower as every home in the uk is too be fitted with the new ''Smart meter'' i have been sent a letter by my power company telling me i'll get mine fitted in the next few weeks, the new smart meter records so much data its just dam scary, they dont even have to enter your home when its fitted to read the meter it can all be done from the comfort of their office.
If you put on your kettle, they know about it, if you put on you tv and sit for 4 hours watching it yipp'' they know about it.
The way i see it what you going too do now when you have a light / lights on 18/6 for your veg period, or your lights on 12/12 till your handy work and talent is ready to harvest.
If you ask me its the end to the indoor grow, Big Brother has now caught up with us, they will know everything we use and how long we have used it, running any kind of lights for long periods of times will result in many small scale busts, FACT !
I will put up a link to you tube please ''note'' this is not what your getting but its along the lines with the info they can record on your power use.
Any feed back would be great from any uk grower that already has one fitted.

more scare tactics, what do you think the electric companys are gonna send the feds rounds to every house thats running a few lights rather than just accept the few extra quid the people who grow use in electric each month.

I doubt this is gonna happen, If it did im sure there would be a huge rise in people stealing electricity wired strait into the grid.

Are you paranoid? lol You can still grow just don't use 8000watts. Is it really worth the time, money, effort, and man power to bust a guy for a couple little plants?

if you're that worried about it just run your vegging plants at 24/0 and then run two separate flowering chambers with the lights to be off on one while the other one is on. that way you will have a constant power draw from your lights.

Its a thought and maybe worth me thinking about in the near furure, am about 5 weeks away from Harvest and their timing in wanting in too change the meter could not be any worse, all i can do is play it by ear but from waht i've read around the web the new smart meters are not helping indoor growers, its called a smart meter for a reason.
Thanks for your feed back.

Cannabis crop guide for landlords

The meeting aims to get landlords to help police target drug growers

Police in south west Scotland have asked landlords and retailers to help them spot potential cannabis factories.
Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary is staging the special summit to highlight the tell-tale signs that a drugs farm could be operating in a building.
The force has uncovered major cannabis growing operations in rural parts of the region in recent years.
It hopes to raise awareness among property owners of what to look out for in relation to such criminal activity.
The seminar is being addressed by experts and officers from the local police force.
The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, Scottish Power, insurance experts and Crimestoppers are also due to attend.

Lets see, my heater here next to me is a 2000W unit, some people leave them going all day....
Unless you are running a multi kilowatt grow its not an issue....

But I do agree on the invasion of privacy thing.
I sent the guys doing similar installs localy packing, they can come back when it is passed in law that they can do it.

If you are into software programming its not hard to implement a timer into a microprocessor that will generate a random number value of time for each round of grow. This way there is no 24/24 or 12/12. It will be +-30 minutes on each round. Taking into account that a desklamp is about 90W, a laptop is 70W and speakers are 18W, good luck in finding a less than 200W light somewhere in the grid.

If this is about finding inductive loads from power factors, that can be accounted for too.

What will help them catch you is by looking at your power consumption, and seeing a few kilowatt`s constantly adding onto the system at a SET AMOUNT OF TIME EVERY DAY. They will detect this TREND by using automated software like a google in power bills.

So there should/will be a timer which changes light cycles a little bit every day to prevent this from happening.

People using large lights should be scared.

Also, it would be possible to charge some car batteries to alternate light cycles for very advanced grows. Hence keep the power on all the time, switch it when the lights stop automaticly to battery charging so nobody notices a change in the trend.

A heater is 2000W, two big HPS are 2000w. What will differ them is the trend in plant light cycles, so once you STOP using the power every day at that time they will clock you. So like I said, just switch straight from the lights to charging car batteries. Which you can in turn use to power lights later on.

This is not the end, keep fighting the system. Just more equipment and techy stuff needed :dunce:

People worry and over think things faaaar too much. Power copmapnies really couldn't care so long as you pay the bill. They are in business for the goal of m,aing profit, not acting like the town sherrif. They most likely couldn't care less if soenone has a few kw lights burning, that means they get those few pennies closer to buying their new mercades, they see it as a good thing.

British gas told me that they were going to be fitting a smart meter, i told them that they were higly mistaken and guess what, no smart meter :) They don't get to say whether i have a smart meter or not. British gas do not own my meter, as such they have no say over the matter. Hell, if it bothers you enough just buy your own meter :) Perfectly legal. And if they do own the meter, then you tell them to take it away as you've no use for it and will have one installed from a different company. Remember, electricity companies are often more than reasonable when it comes to recieving cash from you, they don't tend to go out of their way to force you into using a competitor, i'll say it again, they exist for the reason of making profit, not being some good Samaritan :)
