my rookie set up

so i am new to smoking and growing.

let me tell you a little about the set up im making and you can tell me how retarded I am ....
and then give me good advice

I have a
-next gen 400w/ 600w electronic balist.a hydro farm heated germination station.
-extra sun 6 air cooled reflector
-ge 400w metal halide (for early stages)
-agrosun 600w super red sodium (for late stages)
-general hydroponics rapid rooter

I built a home made bubble ponics system using:
-bubble stones from petco
-air pump
-home depot submergable pump.

I havent designed the grow box yet.
I havent worked out the ventilation. i plan to grow 2 to 6 plants at a time.

QUESTIONS:
1.) is this realistic? can i have a setup like this in an apartment? Do i have to worry about odor? if so do i NEED a charcoal filter if so what size etc. With under ten plants will an ionizer be enough for the odor.

also
i am not sure how to set up the ventilation. specifically how to i place the fans in relation to the vents?

someone please help me un-fu*k myself.

thanks for all the help

So i live in a small apartment in a large city in washington state.
Odor is a concern for me .

man
no advice?
lots of lookers
I supose you can but as you say your concerns with the smell will be valid im groing in im groing in an apt at the time but mine is more like townhouse style my neighbors are a lil furteh away than the normal apt and im in a unit that is upstairs and down my grow is upstairs to help with smell.but i dont use any high price filters i simply got 3 auto glade dispensers and put each one on staggering spray cycles at 3 minutes apiece so every 3 minutes i get a fresh burst..also i only grow low smell or fruity smell strains to help..i hope this helps as far as smell goes..as for the box size for a four hundred you should have a box at least 3x3x6 with very good ventilation and air circulation im not to familiar with the 600..Peace

Hey Newbie just by a grow tent they come in all diffrent sizes and have holes for ventilation already and i believe they have straps to hold lights and carbon filters (someone correct me if i'm wrong)! Is this going to be a stealth grow? (if so might not want a tent)

First of all

THANK you!!!!
thanks for responding. I just dumped a chunk of cash on this equipment and i really wanted some feedback to see if i already made any dumb mistakes..

It is going to be stealth in the fact that i dont want my neighbors to smell it or hear it.
I dont have to hide it inside my apartment.

My main concerns are odor and i wanted to know if the extra electricity would set off any alerts. Im sure im just being a paranoid newbie but i just wanted to make sure.

It seems like you've got the lighting and the medium all figured out. Im no help with bubbles. Now you need to control the environment ... very important consideration.

What type of system do you want to run? Open loop (exhaust to fresh air and suck in fresh air) or Closed loop (recirculate air inside sealed room)? There are pro/cons to each way... including $ considerations.

Either way, you'll definately need a carbon filter. Probably a Can66.

im not sure about the system.
I am in a small apartment. I dont have to hide the grow INSIDE the apartment but i dont want my neighbors to smell or hear it.
I dont mind spending money if i NEED to. However, im ok with saving money. Does anyone have any experience with a home made carbon filter?
i was thinking of closed ventilation.

i grow in a 1bdm apt. i have 2400w with a 475 cfm fan running through an active carbon filter to get rid of the smell. even 6 plants in an apt can smell it up really bad. but the smell really only get real bad when i flower.

just build your own tent from a roll of panda film $100. and pvc pipe $50. then it will be to your specs.

Well if it's outside then you might as well use the fresh air mother nature gives us. Get a good carbon filter. You'll need to replace it in about a year though. A good one will completely eliminate the odor... that's worth every $. There is value in spending a little xtra money on exhaust. A good fan will be quiet and stay quiet. A good filter will do it's job effectively. Failing to be quiet, eliminate smell, or displace enough heat can all completely ruin your whole grow very quickly. Sure you can find some cheap crap, but can you afford a failure?

hey man the glade works just fine for me, every three minutes i have one of the dispensers going poof. LOL, but as for the stealth part i wanted something like un-noticible so i got the supplies from home depot and build myself a 42" plasma tv stand. Its 2x3x4 box ive yet to clear gloss it but it has been stained with cherry wood stain, and i must say it looks very nice. But the inside is a very nicely concealed grow chamber the only time my smell comes out is when the lights are on and that at night, so im fine once the lights go off in the morning i give the house on good spray upstairs and down and im good to go...check out my journal to get an idea of the box/tv stand in my signature...peace

all these suggestions are really good. a tent might be a good idea depending on how stealth you actually need it to be inside your place.

I'm doing the apartment thing too. mines a 2 bedroom with more than 10. get a carbon scrubber, its the best move you will make and worth every dollar. i say get the biggest one you can afford. that will take care of your odor problem.

also
i am not sure how to set up the ventilation. specifically how to i place the fans in relation to the vents?
i'm running 2 inline fans one to blow fresh air in and one to pull the hot stinky air out, thats the one i have the carbon scrubber on. but you should also have oscillating fans blowing on your girls constantly.

My main concerns are odor and i wanted to know if the extra electricity would set off any alerts. Im sure im just being a paranoid newbie but i just wanted to make sure.

as long as you pay your electric bill on time and dont steal electricity you will be fine. i dont know what the price of kWh's are whwere you live but a 400/600watt combo would only add about 15 bucks to my bill where i live, and lets just say i'm not too far.

i think i read on here somewhere something along the lines of....

"the power company is a business just like any other. first thing is money. if you are buying powere company's product, they arent going to be like "oh shit, this guy is buyin too much of our shit, lets call the cops" as long as you keep paying them you are solid clientele to them.

anyways, cheers and good luck:joint::joint::joint::weed:

imo i would say you are fine with a 400, just figure out how to mount it so that it moves the air effectively
