New to HPS

I just got my first HPS set up (400w) and i was wondering how far i should hang it above my plants. Im familiar with CFL and i dont want to burn my ladys.

use a fan to blow across the tops of your plants and watch out without a air cooled hood temps can get pretty high when i first got my hood it cooled my temps by 10 degrees and thats with a crappy fan cooling it

How much do you think my temps will go up with a 400w? im workin with a 3x3x9 space

it will be hot i have a 10x10 room and i was runing upper 80's lower 90's now i stay consisntent 80-81

Yeah, it'll put out quite a bit of heat. It also depends on how hot it is outside the room. Of course, if it's 70* outside of the growroom the temps are going to be quite a bit lower than if it's 80* outside the growroom. You mioght want to invest in an air cooled hood, but I'd check it out first and see what kind of temps you get with the open hood.

I run my 'open reflector' 400 watt HPS's at 16-18" without any burning. I also have an oscillating fan sweeping across the tops, which keeps them cool. You'll have to back it off to around 20" if you don't have any fan cooling the tops.
