I´m quite new to growing, and are currently in the 2nd week. My three plants(northern lights) have developed 2nd pair of leaves, but one of them look abit unhealthy. There is a dark color originating from the centre of the developing leaves, which is picked up by the leaves, but disappear further out. I also have a curling upwards on one leaf, which have turned brown in color.

I am thinking this might be related to a heating problem, and not a nutrient, due to the early stage, since I haven´t used any fertilizers yet. The second plant is showing wavy pattern in the leaves, and not consistent shape.

I also have one plant ( jack flash) that have turned into brownish edges, which might be related to heating problems.

The temperature is around 24-27 Celsius, and there is a constant air flow in the room. I am using a MH 400 Watt lamp, about 40 cm over the seedlings. Would someone please help me what might be causing this discoloring, before it is too late. Is this a minor problem, that the plant will recover from, or do I have to take radical changes asap ?

Thank you !!

From what i cant see it looks like you have a hint of purple on your leaves, some times its genetics some times its not. I googled both strains to see if they turn purple and havent seen anything. So with that being said leaves only on option its turning because of the low temps most likely at night. What are your night temps when the lights are off? Temps are perfect with the light on. And for the leaf curling i have seen that when the ph problem is about to occur and like you said heat stress. Oh and a quick tip dont leave those big water droplets on your plant with the light on they become magnifying glasses and burn your plant.

Thanks for the reply! Well, since I´m on 24 h lights, the temperature is constant. And I was thinking it was genetics, but since the other 2 plants do not show any of this discoloring effect from centre, I doubt it. About temperature, my reading was done not directly under the lamp, where the plants are, since there it is most likely much hotter. A temperature reading directly where the plants are, should be much higher. Am I doing this wrong ?
About water droplets on leaf, it was just one time when the photo was shot, and later read about the light magnifying, and haven´t done it again but thanks.
What about the pict. jack flash, this is heat burn right ?? And, what I most want to know is if this problem will ruin my crop, or is it a minor problem ??
THANKS

Hey dude sorry for taking so long to respond I have been busy, To be honest after reading your last post I dont know why there turning purple. But it doesent seem to be harming the plants. And as for you taking the temps you are doing it right. And as for the jack flash yes that is heat stress/burn just lift up the lights a lil. And like i said before it looks like a minor problem to me but watch it, if it gets worse then you have a problem who know it may just grow out of it. Btw i was checking out someones thread and they had a 2 plants same strain and when they went into flower one stayed green and one turned purple so it can actually be genetics. But i have never seen a plant turn color in flowering anyway good luck keep me updated and Happy Growing

thanks for your reply. The discoloration has started to fade away, and showing good growth. I´ve transplanted, and another thing has showed up. The lower leaves (fan leaves ?), is showing looseness, and distinct dropping, which you can see in the picture I´ve added
(picture doesn´t show the yellow spots).
This along with two of the plants having small (a few) yellow spots. What could be the cause of this ? Since they are not that old, and due to the transplantation, I have not started giving nutrients yet. From what I have gathered from nutrient problem, this might be due to deficiency in N, or what would you say, or is it temperature problem?? Should I start giving nutrients (with high N level), or is it to soon (plant is little more than 2 weeks old)? I also have Alg-A-Mic from Biobizz, could this be a good time of starting using it ??
Another thing I want to ask, is about my other strain - Jack flash. It is the same age, but showing distinct decrease in growing, comparable to northern lights. And the color is more like lime green, really light green (I´ve also added this picture).
Could this be a problem, and if so, which one ??
Thanks a lot for your help,, highly appriciated

the upper picture (northern lights) 2 weeks old. Lower picture (jack flash) 2 weeks old. As in the post, no nutrients has been given to none of the plants, since they are both quite young, and just transplanted them, so the new soil should last them for a week or so. So could not be nutrient burn. Though might be over heating, the temp is about 26 C. But the lime green color, along with the SLOW growth(if u compare it with northern lights, upper picture) is alarming to me, and have no explanation. Any comments please ..

Generally when the leaves curl up on the sides like that, its a heat/light problem. When mine were about 40cm away they did this. I backed off to 50cm and this stopped.

I have the same set up as you, and one of my seedlings got shocked under the 400watt MH. He slowed down for 3 days and looks to be growing again. Next time, Im sticking to CFLs until they have their 3rd set of leaves.

Your NL is the same age as mine, under the same lights, with no nutes (FoxFarm soil) They look to be in a dead tie...but yeah maybe over watered. Possibly you just watered them and they wilted for a few hours and perked back up...lets hope.
