Hi everyone. I've just ordered a pack of fem Blue Mystic seeds from Nirvana and planning my first ever grow.

I am completely new to this, while I've read many posts and guides about this, I am still ratherly clueless about what I should do.

What I wonder about the most is the light. I only have a desk lamp, obviously the plant won't grow to anywhere near the normal standard, but I am only looking for a small yield (1/8 to 1 oz per plant) and just feel the need to ask will it work and the plant won't just die?

Also the ventilation, the cabinet of my grow room is sealed shut. Does the plant require constant air or will half-day be fine?

And finally, what part of the plant do I use? It's not the leaves as I initially thought. Is it the buds in the flowers?

I know I sound like a complete douche asking those questions. Please be forgiving and I appreciate any help/advice given. Thank you.

You paid for good seeds, now try to do it right. No, you can't do it with a desklamp. But a few 42w cfls won't cost much. And yes, plants need air circulating around them and control of heat and humidity. It's not that you will get a small yield if you ignore these things, you'll just be wasting time and money. The seeds will keep. Save up if you have to and at least get a minimum system.

Using the desk lamp in a sealed cabinet will create too much heat without the proper air flow. fluorescence generate little to no heat and you can keep them 2 inches from your plants. You should also really figure out someway to get airflow in your cabinet. It is necessary.

I agree with the above poster....been there, done that....I ruined a couple of grows by starting before I had things really ready.... a few died and a few grew anemic and yeilded very small amounts
PLUS....Blue Mystic is a blueberry hybrid if I'm not mistaken...and any blue is sensitive to various factors .....not an easy one to start with. But, if you have several seeds, why not start something , keep a journal, and learn.....

Thanks for the advice fellow blazers. Much appreciated.

I think I'll hold on the those seeds for now and invest in some equipments.

Just wondering if there are any budding growers in UK, from northern region who can give me some advices about where and how to get some cheap setup/equipments to get started on it.

I am house-sharing so this needs to be very discreet and I am skint so the cheaper the better!

What kind of closet? I am currently recieving all my equipment to start my grow here soon. What are you looking to spend on lighting?

Well I am trying to keep the spending to minimal, although if the money needs to be splashed out then it'll have to be done. I have new thoughts on the location as my original cabinet is sealed shut and I don't fancy drilling holes in it. I am thinking either take out a payer of my desk drawer and use that or looking into the possibility of using my spare computer hardware case, as it has a fan.

What kind of stuff did you order? How much did it come to?

I run bubbleponics and LED UFOs 90W 4th Gen, ready grow from SH is like 170 then the light I got from a compant near me in Miami for like 150 who imports these things, LED almost generate no heat and no difference in powerbill that I have seen yet. over all i have spent near 1000 but i wanted to do this right, grow journal for initial full grow is coming soon :) if you wanna keep track.

maybe the cheapest way to go is the 'power strip cfl fixture'
just a standard power strip with some cheap plug in sockets
hang the strip at the top of your grow space, and not a bad cheap setup
there are pics somewhere in the DIY forum

Thanks for the advice people. I cleaned out my spare pc case today and will start looking at purchasing tools etc soon. Aiming to start the growing by early Feb.

@growone, the power strip cfl fixture looks perfect, but any ideas where I can buy the socket adaptors from UK/online?

@SG I will be subscribing to your grow journal. Looking forward to it!

not sure where you can find the sockets in uk, but they're around, such a common item
maybe ebay
i'd think a small local hardware store might be a good place to look
