Hey OhSoGreen!

I started reading this thread in September of 2008 and still keep coming back to it. Still have not read it all and most of what I needed to know to have a successful grow I learned on the first three pages of this thread. Organic has been my only real consideration since day one. Now on my third grow and have a thread here. Stop in anytime. All advice taken gratefully. Bump!

I do my composting in a homemade bin - made from a food grade 55 gallon barrel. It makes turning it easy. You don't even need that. I put a couple of hotlinks for you to check out. They go into detail on how to do it.

The basics :
Composting Tips
.
Real detailed :
Making compost: Journey to Forever organic garden
.
I am quite interested in making my own compost, but does anyone know what types of insects/ pests it will attract? I mean, I don't want to end up mixing in fire ants with my girls' soil mix!

ohsogreen: I just ordered BMO's full line up after many probs with Fox Farm. I would like to add some myco into my plants diets, but I dont wanna spend 45 bucks on some "great white". Do you have any suggestions on cheap mycorrhizal fungi? Also, what would your feeding/watering schedule look like if you were in 3 gallon pots?

MycoGrow from FungiPerfect. www.fungi.com

~$5.95/oz, makes 12 gallons of mix, enough for 150-250 plants.

They have been in business since the mid 1980s and are very solid and reliable.

Not like many of these new company's scamming inexperienced growers with (admittedly), fancy labels and outrageous prices.

$45 for myco? You should get a kiss with that, because you are for sure getting f__ked.:finger:

There is a product sold at home depot and lowes called Epsoma Bio-Tone Starter Plus, contains lots of bacteria and fungi, about $8 for a bag, works very well.:leaf:

I refuse to buy great white. I have some friends that use it and swear by it (they also swear by AN as well:roll:). I know there is effective stuff out there for cheap which is what I was looking for. I ended up buying rooters endo/ecto myco mix. 10 bucks for 1 pound.

It was a toss up between mycogrow and rooters and I went with that. I will see how this stuff works and give mycogrow a try next time. Thanks
