you seem to be so knowledgable so I thought I should get your opinion. This will be my first grow. 30 plants. Indoor with soil. i want fast production. I will be growing clones of green crack. How many watts and how many lights for the fastest production. I would like to yield as much as possible. Thanks.

Sorry I feel like an idiot now. What is the benefit of 400 watts over 1000 watts. Won't 1000 Watts produce a stronger light which will produce a faster grow.

i dont recommend 1k watters too often for the home grower.... there's really no need... you can have more efficiency with lower wattage

Well i'm mr ganja so I can officially answer this thread, anyone else can get fucked phwahahahaha.

I'd say if you want to grow 30 decent yielding plants, I would personally go with 3 x 600w for flowering then whatever light needed to veg with.

30 plants at a minimun to get a decent yield i would say 1 per square foot so that means you need a 30 sq foot area.

3 x 600w is 1800watts so divide the 1800 watts by a 30sq foot area and your reaching 60 watts per square foot.

I would run that in a 10 x 3 area with as much height as you can give them.

what IS the size of the grow area? that's really the determining factor.... ie, if you want to illuminate a 10x10, you need four 1k's. if you're in a 3x2 closet, you need a 400.

as for style of growing, once you consider m2, it really doesn't matter whether you have a thousand in a sog or 16 monsters; yield will be approximately the same.

on the other hand, vertical growing allows for more square footage of grow area per bulb, but intensity is deminished, as there's no reflector. yield once again ends up close to the same.

do a search on 3 lbs a light, and you'll find some great grows that push growing to the extreme....

have you got a budget in mind, and will you be trying to utilize the entire garage? if so, for flower only, or veg room too?

heh, i'm mr. ganga too :p

In this picture i'm growing 27 plants in an area 3 foot x 9 foot. The lighting i'm using is 3 hps lights, 2 x 600 and 1 x 1000 giving me 82 watts per square foot.

My budget is $5,000. Can I use the garage for both flower and veg. This may sound stupid but vegging is first than flowering right?
How long can the vegging take and how long for the flowering. Thanks for all you help guys. I might ask several dumb questions to gain knowledge. I am also reading other numerous threads for research.

veg first, then flower; yes. ideally, a grow room will consist of a nursery, veg room, and flower room. your nursery houses your moms and clones/seedlings, veg room for growing the plants up to size, then flower room for the finish...

i'd say split the room, 20x12 and 8x12. then, you can split the smaller room again, 10x8 and 10x8 or whatever you need.....

1k's will cover a 5x5 decently, 600w will do a 4x4, and a 400w will do a 3x3. figure your space and you'll see what lights you need.

Before dumping 5grand....do some researching for yourself. You'll get 20 different answers to a question like that.

Or...Since you plan on spending that much cash...buy a few books....$150 worth of books will pretty much get you any answer you need. Thats not much off the top of your 5grand budget.

There are some books dedicated to setting up grow rooms...cost/lighting etc.

I'll jump in here with my two cents. My room is just about 1/2 of that size. We see this kind of question a lot more than you would imagine and while I leave the plants and lights to others I usually jump in about the physical plant. To make use of a garage, you will need to insulate it better than the house, particularly minimum r38 in the attic space, if there isn't one create it, you will need it for venting. If the sidewalls are 2x4's you will want to beef up the insulation and seal all the leaks and cracks that blow air in to the garage now. You want at least an r-19 and you can't get that inside the wall. You have to add it inside or outside, in this case I recommend inside, so do all the neceesary wiring, and plumbing first. I do have some answers if you get more specific. VV
