Smallest spot you've seen a 400 HPS

So i just finished my first grow in a 4x2x5 tent with my 400 hps in a air cooled hood... My needs dictate that i need to make a stealth setup so this begs the question:
What's the smallest spot that you've seen a 400, totally stealth?
Its either this or I go back to CFLs >.<:wall:

That is a very good question and one that I've posed myself, with some pretty good responses. The biggest factor that will determine how small of a space you can fit it into is whether or not you have an air-cooled hood/ cooltube (which you do). I am getting ready to test the limits. My design is 2Dx3Wx4H which isn't all that much smaller then your last design. The biggest obstacle will be height. I don't see many people trying it under 3x3x5 but I'm going to give it a shot. My goals will be not to burn the plants and keep heat below 85F; which a lens+air-cooled hood + secondary box ventilation should do....hope it will do.:???:

I have a 400w in a 2'x3' shelving unit with 2' of vertical clearance for the plants.

I have an HPS in there right now, and it hovers around 31-33 degrees Celsius. Once my CMH's come in, I think it will hover around 25-28C.

Well, look at it this way. At around 10 inches from my hood containing a 400 watt HPS my light meter is at 10,000 foot candles, which is the max I feel safe keeping the light from the canopy (adequate cooling needed).

So, again, assuming adequate cooling a 2x3 foot space could probably work.

Last summer I used a 400w hps uncooled in 36"x16"x66". Temps stayed in the high 80s to low 90s usually with the light on. I switched to cmh but that didn't help with the temps at all. Plants grew but they didn't turn out great and didn't get a very big yield. Ill try again this year when it gets warmer but now I have an aircooled hood to try out.

i have a 400w hps in a 4x2x5 tent as well. how were you able to manage the high temps? i currently have this issue and need ideas to resolving it. you got any pics you can post? thanks in advance.
