hey just wondering if anyone here could give me some ideas on how to power pc fans for a pc grow case.any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can get these same types of fans at radio shack that are AC. This way you don't have to worry about figuring out the adapters and such. Just take a lamp cord and wire it up.

You can buy fan controllers from most PC hardware stores or online from Newegg.com they've got free shipping on a lot of small items and the delivery is great, plus if you manage to break it within 60 days they're usually really on top of things with RMA to get you a functioning unit quickly

You can follow the tutorial using one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Original-Power-90303-Universal-Compatability/dp/B0042X8XNW/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296864410&sr=1-13) and adjust the speed by changing the voltage. Works for many (but not all) pc fans.
Just hooked one up last night with great success following the tips in the link above. I LOVE this forum!!!

If you go the charger/converter route,the side of one cord's plastic insulation will have a raised ridge on the side. That's the postive lead and the other is the ground. You can then hook it to a rheostat in a project box. Punch a hole in the box for the rheostats shaft,add an insulated knob to the shaft and you've got an adjustable fan.
You can pick the rheostat,knob and box up at Rat Shack for under 5-7 bucks,the box being the being the pricey item. Use a piece of circuit board inside and a rubber gromit for the hole to insulate the rheostat from the box. You could probably use a mint tin if you don't want to shell out for a project box.
