2 x 600w for 20 plants in veg - too much!?

I've got a 2x1.5m tent with 2 x600w ligths in. I just used it to flower 10 big buds in after vegging them in my cupboard with a 400w.

I've got the new babies to about 4 weeks in veg in the cupboard with a ufo, whilst waiting for big buds to flower. They're out now so put the babies in, need 1 more week veg, is 2 x 600w hps too much for 20 plants in veg? Im a little nervous as I've only ever used my tried and tested cupboard method

never too much light

untrue.
plants will only absorb as much light as other factors allow them to (soil, nutrients, water, humidity, temperature, GENE STRUCTURE!!!): TRUE!
BUT too much light can have adverse affects, not to mention the cost on your next power bill. mother nature never intended anything to be brighter than the sun, maybe better distribution but if your running lights really close they have very high INTENSITY, do some research on this forum, you'll dig up all kinds of info on LIGHT.
if i was you....
just try one plant for a couple days, if something bad's gonna happen it will happen in the first 48 hours

thanks guys, I've put them in, they seem to be ok, some of the leaves not looking as green as I'd like them to be. I've moved the lights up so they're not as close. Will just have to see how they go.

can you get some picks up??? i wanna see the 600watters in action, i need to see some real results before i purchase my 600w.
i've heard that the 250w are the most efficient lights, but i dont know... would 2x 250w be better than 1 x 600??:leaf:

there is such a thing as practicality, its not rational to have 2 1000's right beside each other to overlap the same area, but direct sunlight can get up to 130,000 lumens/sqmtr (260,000 lumen/2 sqmtr), whereas a 1000 only puts out 70,000 lumens/2sqmtrs. there is a max lux reading for plants, but unless u have ur HID's beside each other and overlapping, u'll never reach it, and never too many led's if thats the way u wanna grow
