Hey rollitup,

hope you guys all had a great holiday! So I am planning on doing a small grow (2-4 plants) in a tent, I have done a fair amount of research and have concluded with this. What do you guys think? Also is this overkill for what i want to do? I want to be able to use this set up for a long time, is this stuff good quality that will hold up for many many years?

Homebox GL120 (3'11 x 3'11 x 6'7)

Yield Master Reflector with Quantum ballast 600 watts

6in. Vortex Power inline fan

Home made "carbon filter"
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/37229-cheap-carbon-filter-setup-all.html

Vornado fan- for circulating air around
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14761179

Is this overkill for what i want to do? My main goal is to grow incredible, dank, and potent bud for me and my friend's personal use. Am I making it too big and expensive? Also is this stuff good quality that will work for many many years?

thank you

Hey man whats up, I really don't think anyone would tell you its overkill because if you look at advanced growers like Rumple, he only grows 1-2 plants with only the most superb conditions and his yields are incomparable to some who grow ten plants. Overall your plan seems to look really good, all the equipment is good stuff but there are plenty more sites out there with cheaper prices. Every single one of those links I clicked on, I have found the exact same items for less. Good luck, hope this helps and my advice is to keep reading, read some more, research, read and ask more questions. GL

Sounds good to me. If you want 2-4 plants the GL 120 would be suitable. You could probably get away with using the GL80 as well.

6" fan for your exhaust is a good choice
You may want to get more fans to circulate the air, although one is better than none at all.
All in all you're on your way to growing. Good luck.

Thank man! I was looking at different sizes and the GL120 seems kinda big, but GL80 seems pretty small and there is nothing really in in between. A perfect size would be 100cm x 100cm x 200cm (3'3 x 3'3 x 6'7). So i guess just go bigger just to have the extra room and grow the plants slightly bigger?

I feel the exact same way as you. With my current living situation, I can't afford to have the GL120 out in the open. The GL80 I can disguise well enough because it's substantially smaller, but I do wish they had another size in between the GL80 and GL120.

And it's always good to have more room. I used a Homebox XS for my first grow and I found it was too small for my 400w HPS and I couldn't run it without using my portable a/c. In the GL120, you can comfortably fit 6 plants, 8-10 if you use smaller pot sizes.

yea i feel ya, 6 plants is a lot, im looking to grow about 3-4 (2-3oz per plant) with the small amount of plants, do you think the GL 80 is 2'7 x 2'7 x 5'11(39 cubic feet) would be ok? What about the GL80L is 2'7 x 4'11 x 6'7 (84 cubic feet), but I feel like that is kind of an awkward shape for light to be distributed.

Are there any other good companies, that wont kill my plants or out leach gasses, that make an in between size?

If you want 3-4 plants, all you would need is the GL80. You can probably grow them in 2-3 gallon pots/bags/etc.

Your reflector should fit just fine inside, but if you're going to be using a 600w, I would go with the GL120 since it has the 2 ports for the reflector.
Even with my 400w HPS, I'm wishing that the GL80 had the two ports for the reflector because I use a 6" 435cfm fan to cool the reflector (overkill or not, I don't know), but because I use the 6" fan vs. the 4" fan that I also own, I can only use carbon filters that have 6" flanges and around 22" long and on top of that I need to attach a 6" to 4" duct reducer, so I'm not sure if it's going to fit.

With the GL120, I would place the 4" fan at the roof and attach the ducting to the carbon filter inside the tent and to cool the reflector, I would use the 6" fan and pull air through the 2 reflector ports provided.

So I say go with the GL120 especially if you have room for it in your crib.

yea man thats a very good point, the extra room can never hurt, just help me produce more of the dankness hahah

good looks man!

Right on...I just started looking at more tents since I'm going to be purchasing a new one. I've heard some things about this other company that makes tents. The company is secret jardin and they have a tent that is the perfect size for me. It's a size up from the GL80 made by Growlab.

http://www.greners.com/expertadvice/grow-tent-shootout.html

Check em out...I'm going to do more research right now
Thanks dude! that looks awesome, im thinking about getting the DR 100 http://www.greners.com/grow-tents/brand/secret-jardin/secret-jardin-dark-room-grow-tent-dr100.html it looks like the perfect size and from that comparison its looks like secret jardin is a great tent company. With that size tent would you use a 600w or 400w light?

I'm actually about to order the DR100 as well. You can use a 600w with it if properly vented.

With your 6" fan pulling the hot air through the reflector and exhausting it outside, it should run effectively.

I'm going to set mine up like so: carbon filter>ducting>reflector>ducting>fan (outside of tent on roof) that way no heat escapes.

On my first grow I had major heat issues and had to pump cold air in via ducting using my portable a/c using this setup: reflector>ducting>fan>filter (both fan and filter outside tent). So basically I was pulling all my air through an open end of my 4" reflector. I'm trying to not repeat this setup next grow.

Arite thanks!
This is my first tent grow and I am a little confused about how you described hooking your fan and carbon filter up. The way you described it seems like the air being pulled out wouldn't go through the carbon filter, since the reflector is in between the filter and the fan? If you could clarify this that would be great!

I Like to just pull outside air through my hood and the vent outside the tent, instead of scrubbing the air all day long.

I think it works your carbon filter too much to run it all day long, not to mention the fan has to work also with extra power needed.

This way I can also use a low power motor and save on electricity and only use the carbon filter when I need to vent the place out for temp reasons.

I am about to start a new DR120 and a 600 watt grow. This is the best setup for my needs I think. Good luck and take more pics...peace JR
