Which Carbon Filter Should I buy?

I ordered a 3x3x6.5 grow lab. I am looking for a cheap filter and these are the 2 cheapest I could find. Or should I just spend a little more for something better. Comments links recommendations all appreciated. Thanks

that second link, the htg one, doesn't look bad, the first one looks a lil weak imho.. that lil computer fan doesn't look like its gonna move much air.. i don't think that a carbon filter is a place to be skimping at if your trying to do your best to keep your odor under control...
i would say go with the htg supply setup, they are a pretty respected company who have been around for awhile and have a good reputation..

I am doing a little more research and I hear good things about Foothill and not so good things about the HTG filters. Has anyone tried either or both? Thanks

I have used footfill.

Lets consider:

The first link you're paying for the filter and getting a cheap fan. You will be able to upgrade the fan later if needed but the cheapo doesn't look very easy to connect any ducting to. This filter provides an easy swap out of activated carbon. That's because it needs to be changed every 4-6 months. Nevertheless, if you change the carbon often, you'll always have decent quality filtration.

The second link you're getting a cheap filter and a cheap fan. The second one will blow more air, but that wont be a big problem in your 3x3 tent unless you're running a 1000. First it says you get over 47 pounds of activated carbon! Then down in the fine print it says 4 pounds :( Hmmmm It will also be a clunky ass loud summamabitch I bet. Blowing way more air than you need blowed. According to this: http://www.farmwholesale.com/ventilation.shtml You need about 90 cfm. You're building a greenhouse, not a fukn wind tunnel ;)

How loud is it? It says 49 dba and I believe that is pretty loud. I have nosey neighbors and I don't want them asking what the noise is. heh

Sound is very subjective. What is quiet to me, could be loud to you. I think it is quiet. About the same as my $80 floor fan on high. It certainly does produce a "swooshing" sound for 20 or 30 feet away without any doors, walls, etc. in the way.

If I listen carefully, I can hear it through a door at about 10 feet away. I don't see any way your neighbors could here it from outside.

Then this is not the hobby for you. Not if your expectations are to see any return $. If you're into it SOLELY to avoid paying for it, and you don't mind smoking moldly scraggle-hay, being cheap will get you there. You should know that going in imo.

Im not saying you should go drop 500 on a fan and filter, Im just referring to the overall mindset going into this hobby. The can-filter and fan you picked should work. Keep in mind that the filter only lasts for a limited time, so going too cheap is bad because it'll be used up before the really smelly months come. If you can afford a little smell escaping thats okay.

Well this is why I am asking in here. I am more thrifty than cheap. heh I like bargains but I hate walmart. I like nice name brand quality but at a nice wholesale price. If yah know what I mean.
I want to have enough ventilation because I may add and 250w or 400w hps system too but that is a discussion for another day heh. I am just in this for some personal stash so small is good.

For what I need this isn't really cheap. I don't wanna go overkill and make a wind tunnel. If you know something better smokingrubber, let me know man. What do you use? I have been looking at the phat filters and they may even be cheaper than the Cans. What is top of the line for filters? I thought it was Can.

i have the HTG one that u posted. It is a little loud, but it works fantastic. I have a 4x4 tent and i used the fan for the carbon filter and to cool my light. It pulls air into filter, then thru the light, then out. keeps smells out and temps at bout 75. Couldnt ask for more in my opinion. The price outweighs the sound that it makes

Does any smell escape the tent and how long have you been using the filter?

I'm not saying the can-filter is a bad choice. It IS a cheap can-filter though. I said it was a good choice, just don't expect years of service from it. Thats all Im saying. Ive found that when you look for the cheapest item you can find . . . you'll GET the cheapest item you can find! Know what I mean? Instead of asking "whats the cheapest" you should be asking "what is appropriate." If the answer to that doesnt fit your budget, there will be consequences somewhere along the line.

I ended up ordering a Phresh Filter and fan from DCHYDRO last night. I spent a little more than I wanted to but it was on sale and more than what I need. heh Thanks for your help guys and Happy New Year.
