i think it maybe the soil your using cause no one really suggests miracle grow for bud but i could be wrong (are you doing an organic grow?) or just the soil i am doing an organic grow myself

Ive been researching that soil your using the Organic MG shit and the results seems to lean toward it being horrible stuff.. multiple reviews from manufacturers and enthusiasts shun the soil as a very bad medium. Most claim the drainage is bad and the nutes are insufficient. Looking over your journel again i seen signs of nitrogen deficiency very early on, Might i suggest Miracle Grow - Mosture Control? The drainage is remarkable, This is my soil im using and its working really good. It provided just the right amount of nutes for about a month.. Once i flowered, i noticed the leaves getting a lighter green so i added some bloom fert (4-10-10) and its working incredibly.

I believe u are going to transplant soon, so try out the mg moisture control.. its great stuff with a perfect 5.8-6.0 ph level out the bag.
I'll see if I can find that stuff anywhere. I think there's still a greenhouse open near me. I just transplanted them but I could always throw in some nutes for now (in a week maybe) and then move them to bigger pots. I have 5 going and once I flower them and find out the sex, I'm going to narrow it down to 3 plants or less so I'll probably transplant again to 3 pots that fill the growspace.

Amen scrapdizle! thank you. I love the Moisture control its good shit.
Well damn now I really need to look into it. Where do you guys buy your MC soil?

Whats up emptypockets7 just thought i would stop by and check out your awesome grow, you have helped me out with alot of things and just trying to return the favor um.... I see that your plants are a lil under the weather and I would suggest adding some nitrogen. Quick question before you add the (N) Have you been using the miracle grow organic soil from the start if the answer is yes that maybe the problem. If im not mistaken there is very little nitrogen in that soil mix which may be causing the yellowing of the leaves, just to be sure just look on the bag and check out the N-P-K. Hope it helps and enjoy your vacation see you when you get back.
Thanks for stopping in. I'm definitely glad to see consistency here with the posts. All you guys telling me the same thing makes me feel like I could knock this problem out ASAP.

:oh shit your right man, you beat me to it unfortunately. But I didnt read your post honestly man i some what skimmed through the thread because some of the pics were missing in the beginning and i saw the mg soil pic and put what i thought would help. Lesson learned i will now take the time to read the thread completely Anyways all credit goes to you man and in the end all i was trying to do was help a fellow grower.

P.S I feel like such a dumbass :wall:
Happy Growing
No biggie. Like I said, at least you were throwing in some similar advice and not something completely off the wall.

all good man, at least we agree it was the same thing. :)
Constructive criticism :weed:

I wanted to do an organic grow but I think I may be limited on the nutes. I can always order some but I was trying to keep this grow fairly cheap. I'll see if I can find some better soil. Would this soil be alright if I mix some stuff into it such as Perlite or maybe some Moisture Control and some nutes?

This may sound like a dumb question but would I be able to clear all the bad dirt off the roots? Maybe shake them out and dunk them in water until all/most of the bad dirt falls off and then transplant it into better soil? I feel like this could stunt the plant like crazy and ruin a lot of the roots though.

I get my soil from walmart.. same price as the organic shit, wherever u got ur original mg soil should have the moisture control. Since u already transplanted, depending on how long you wait untill u flower i would leave them as is for now.. If you plan on veg for another month then i would wait a week or 2 to let them recover from the first transplant, then move them one final time to bigger pots and better soil. Never transplant during flowering, unless the sex is still unknown since its not far enough flowering to hurt to much. For your next grow, start with big pots and good soil.. Minimizing stress will help your plants be female.. Stress is a big reason why plants go male or turn into hermi's

If you plan on flowering before a months time then adding some nutes will get you by. Im using some 4-10-10 nutes, perfect for flowering..

Here's a yt vid of my 2 babies in my stealth cab.. 6 weeks old, 4 veg - 2 flower

Best of luck.

Depending on how big your root system is and how much dirt is held on when u pull the plant out the pot u will be safe leaving some soil on the roots. For the least amount of stress, leave the root ball in tacked along with the soil.. your roots will expand into the new bigger pot and reach the better soil.

Found some Moisture Control at a different Wal-Mart and it was less than $5 so I bought it. I can either use it on the next grow or I can use it if I decide to transplant again.

I wanted to start flowering pretty soon. I could veg longer but this is my first grown and I'd like to have some homegrown for 4/20.

DUDE! Did you start those from seed or clone? How much bigger did they get during flowering? Either I'm doing something completely wrong, I'm using MUCH weaker lights, or your plants are mutants. Haha. Mine have vegged for just over 4 weeks and they're still "tiny". I have about 40" of room to grow in my box if you factor in room for the lights/hood. I wanted to get them to maybe 10" before flowering but if that dream is gonna take forever I'm gonna just start flowering.

My plants where started from seeds and i started counting days after they broke the soil. My not entirely sure if its the soil, seeds or lights that made my plants grow so fast.. This is my first grow so i dont have anything to comapre it with but i spend hrs and hrs researching.. I must have done something right because my plants seemed 3-4 weeks ahead of everyone elses at the same age. Heres a list of specific shit i used.

Lights:
Vegged with GE 4x42w Cool White CFL's 2,700k
Added 3 more when i flowered.

Reflectivity:
KoolSeal Ultra High Reflectivity Roof Coating (White)

Soil:
Miracle Grow Moisture Control

Water:
Well Water from my well

Nutes:
Veg = Miracle Grow Plant Food Spikes ( 4 per plant, added after 2 weeks)
Flower = Lilly Miller Ultra Green Bulb and Bloom Food (4-10-10)

I think thats about it, heres a link to my journal.. check it out

I forget exactly when I started counting. I may have started the day I threw them in the ground but they broke soil within 1 or 2 days so it should be close.

For lights I've been using GE 3x26w Cool White CFL's 2,700k. That's probably a huge reason why yours are doing so much better. They're getting a ton more light but I can't keep my temps down with that many lights. I think putting the white paper up instead of the tinfoil has made a huge difference though. When I get time, I'm tearing down all the tinfoil and putting up either painted white cardboard or some mylar if I can find it. I've also been using that crappy soil and no nutes. I'm using well water also (letting it sit for 24+ hours to let the chemicals evap/settle). I definitely know better for my next grow. More lights, more fans, better soil, more nutes. I've also done hours of research. It sucks knowing the right thing to do but not having the money/space/resources to do it.

I heard that those spikes were bad because it's hard to control how much nutes the plants are getting but if you made it work then kudos to you. I'll go check out your journal right now.

Here is a pic that I've been meaning to upload. I took it on 12/21 when I left for vacation. I'm getting nervous now because they've just been sitting taking care of themselves for a few days. I gave them each a shot glass full of water and then put a good amount of water in their bases. I turned the lights down a little (16/8 I believe) to hopefully reduce their water consumption. I'll most likely start flowering when I get back depending on their size/health. THIS IS KILLING ME BEING AWAY FROM THEM!!!

Hey man, good start. Couple of tips:

Only water when the soil is dry.
Easy on the nutrients....LESS IS MORE!!
And in my opinion, definitely get your g/f on board. If these plants grow to be the 3 feet you want them, they will start to stink it up when they flower. You are going to have to be extremely good at odor control OR get your girl to take a hit off the blunt one day....after that she will want you to grow!

I definitely learned not to overwater but since I'm on vacation, I kind of had to.
I have never given my plants nutrients. So far it's been soil and water.
Man I want to really bad. I've been working at it for months now and she's a stubborn one. She still hates weed but won't give me a reason. It's kinda just your standard "It's bad for you and it's illegal!!" argument. Kinda tough to sway her. My plan is to have excellent odor control and I'm going to have tons of smells in my room- coffee pot, incense, candles, cologne, etc. No one will want to come in my room but that'll be perfect. Haha

well just remember, never tell her!!! even if u get her to go with it, cause all it will take is one argument between u guys and next thing u know shes callin the cops to tell them about ur secret.. And if ur one of those guys that thinks ur girl wouldnt never ever snitch on u think again.. all bitches snitch, they cant help it.. If she finds out i can assure u she will blab her mouth to atleast one person.. her mom, her bff, w/e dont let her find out..

On a light note, those babys are looking good!!! I planted a few more seeds today for my next batch, i was going to wait untill i got my 400w but damn i love these CFL's

That's kinda what I was worried about. She definitely seems like the type that wouldn't rat me out though. This girl is one of a kind really. She's not your usual bitch that loves to gossip and yell and shit. She's totally cool with everything else I do and all my friends. She's practically one of the guys (except 110 lbs with nice boobs). Plus she's actually smart and has common sense. I do worry about her blabbing to someone though. It's almost like they NEED to tell at least one person to get it off their chest. It would be nice to not have to hide from her though. It's just such a tough decision...

Thanks man. That was 5 days ago too!! They should be awesome by now (assuming everything is going well).

Haha. Nice job starting up new ones. If anything, just get them going and throw them under the 400W when you get it. At least it'd be a start.

Looking Good man, they will be just fine when you get back just alot bigger lol keep up the good job Happy Growing!
Thanks for the words of confidence. I can only hope...

Explain to her that alcohol is worse for you than weed...plus its more dangerous. I don't understand how some people don't understand that argument. But if you get your girl on board it is awesome. My girl loves it when I grow....she loves to see the progress of the plants, going to the hydro store, helping me take care of them, etc. And she doesn't even smoke!!!

Dude I did!! I almost watched a friend die at the bar. He went out for his 21st and I was there just because I had to support the newest members of the drinking crowd. Well he did 21 shots but passed out and wouldn't respond. I didn't feel a pulse and thought he was dead. He went outside and puked and shit and didn't remember any of it. Scariest moment of my life and I still can't convince her. Her argument "at least it's legal". Got myself a fucking goody 2 shoes...

playing with fire, Hell has no fury like a woman scorned.. remember that.
Yes indeed sir. Yes indeed.

I got back from vacation and they were ugly. After 9 days with just the water I could give them at the start, they are still alive but they could've used the proper loving. They were shriveled up and had a ton of yellow and looked miserable. After I watered them and they got some sunlight they perked right back up. The green leaves are back to normal but as you can see, these plants took some stress. I switched the light bulbs to the 2700K's and changed the light cycle. I figure it's about time to start flowering these things.

I just started germinating 5 new seeds just in case these go south. If they survive, at least I have a few new seeds started in case some of these are male or hermied. They have been stressed SO much. Whoops... These new seeds will go into better soil and I'm going to start them at flowering 12/12 from seed.

u need to drench those pots till the water run out the bottom
Oh I did. It ran out and I let it just sit in the bottom tray. They were all dry again within a few hours. I watered them some more with some nutrients and now they're sleeping. I'll get some more pics tomorrow and upload them. Hopefully there will be a noticeable change by then. The seeds will probably be ready to go in the ground. I might try to find some party cups to start them in. I plan to have a few large plants and a few small ones going so I can harvest every few weeks.
