how much more vertical growth can i expect?

ive got one plant in a bubble bucket, and im leaving for a week or so for christmas, so im hoping itll be able to survive on the water i leave it, but what im really worried about is, i put a screen over it, but now the flowers are growing 3-4 inches above the screen, i tied them down this morning but theyve already turned their faces up to the lights and im concerned theyll grow into the lights ( 9-11 inches above the screen) and burn themselves. i had figured by now they would just be focusing more on flower production instead of growing upwards, but theyre going steadily. after the flowers start appearing - no buds but a decent little cluster of pistils - does the upwards growth stop at some point? i think ill put another screen in between the lights and the flowers, i hope thatll keep them short enough.

I don't understand why people start grows if they are going to be away for a week. You just can't do that.

yeah its not optimal but i started the grow a while back, and hadnt anticipated leaving for so long. since its hydroponic it waters itself, so not being able to tie down the branches as they grow is the only problem, im sure theres plenty of people who've successfully left a grow for a week at a time and any tips would be useful to know, but advice like "You just can't do that." isnt too helpful . .

Simply, yes you can expect that the plant will continue to grow upwards for atleast another week or two. You are still pretty early in the flowering stage and the plant won't focus all of it's energy on the buds for a little while longer. On another note, the closer they reach towards the light, the slower they are gonna grow towards it. Kind of a safety mechanism in the plant. They could still grow into it though. I would tie the closest tips down, from the tips, like an hour before you have to leave. You should be ok then.

what do u mean they well slow down the closer they get to the light ?can u fill me in on how this works? imo they wont slow down unless its at the end of flowering and they will keep reaching for the light. i also have to leave my plants for 7 days ! and i have only a 1 gallon res so im hoping they dont drink much , but then again i can make a call and my bro would refill it , still its a pain

i find that they allways streach for the first 3 weeks of flower after that they shouldnt grow any more i dont know what there talking about but they will most certaity grow right into the light so my advice to you is to move the light up nice and high becuse ur only gonna be gone for a few days then when u get home just move it back. i myself have witnessed my plants grow at least 2-3 inches a day when i switch the lights to 12/12 for some reason they streach so the colas get higher than the canopy i hope this helps

Ok, you took that wrong or I didn't word it right. I was meaning that they will continue to stretch towards the light but, pot isn't retarded. It's not going to just grow into the light. It'll do what it can to avoid the heat. If it's too hot, it will stress the plant out causing the growth to slow.

the plant will grow into the light. plants do not grow into the heat.

because you don't know what your saying sorry.

he just wants to know how much his plant is going to stretch

and we really can't tell you... we can make guesses but will need more info...
do you know the strain?

but it probably will grow until about week 4 or 5 and then slow down

I'm no prefessional by any means, but I have never seen a plant of any kind just grow into a light. They usually tend to slow down the closer they get to the light. That's all I was trying to say.

rreign is right in some respect, a plant is less inclined to grow vertically if it gettin the required light however it wont stop growing upwards completely, keeping your lights close keeps your plants short and bushy but again i stress the plant will still grow upwards and eventually into the light.

its not ideal to leave something like that going for a week without supervision, if anything goes wrong in any aspect of the grow nobody will know until you return and by that point the damage may already be done. imagine if your light timer stopped working and you hermed your crop from light stress??

wait... is it budding now right? you weren't very specific.
do you know the strain and what week you are in... that would be most helpful

my generic answer sticks though... it's going to go up until week 4 or 5 probably... if you have pistil clusters i'm guessing you're in week 2 so you got 2 or 3 weeks of good growth

move the light up a few extra inches... maybe even 6 extra... and hope for the best

it'd be better to have to little light for a week or so (they will be closer to it when you get back) than to lose your top(s)
