Is a 600W Hps Light in a 3.5x3.5ft room overkill?

Right now I am using a 400w HPS in my 3.5x3.5ft grow room. I'm growing 5 white rhino. I was considering switching to 600w on my next grow but was unsure if it would be worth it. Thanks for the help!

ya go for it. i ve got exactly that setup and its working great. i got 2 northern lights and 3 white widow which was a bad idea you are better with 5 of the same strain that will be similar in height. 5 definately max for that space tho unless you are cloning. get lots of air in tho because its going to get hot and humid in there!!

Yeah I have an AC hooked up and two fans. I think I'm also going to try and add a CO2 tank and a regulator. I was actually thinking about trying to start 10 feminized seeds and go from there. Think the room could handle that many? I would probably flower at 10-12 inches.

I wouldnt say overkill but definetly more than enough light. Good luck cooling it though!

Larger light = more lumens = more buds

Be careful though. If your temps start soaring through the roof you will be doing more harm than good.

And yes, you can fit 12 small plants in your area. Use 6'' square pots and flower them after you see roots poking out the bottom of your container. This should take about a week for them to establish a little root system in the soil (or whatever medium).

Use clones if you can because in such a small space, running a little sog, you dont want a bunch of big plants overgrowing the others.. Clones you would get that uniform growth your looking for.

Hope this helps a little? :peace:

Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, I have to start from seed because I used an expired cloning get (always check the storage instructions!). But I will keep you posted on how it all goes. The plan is to start 10 white rhino feminized seeds with the 600w hps and add the co2 tank to the system. I'm pretty excited to see how it all works out. I'm using an ebb and flow system.

Good luck with the grow, I am also starting and attempting a new closet grow, except the thing that sucks is that its only about 1.5 ft. in depth, but its a good 5-6' long and 8' tall. I was thinking I am going to line the 6 plants I'm growing horizontally so they'll have lots of room to grow. Could I fit 5 horizontally but with 2 rows making 10 in just a 1.5 wide space? Also, I'm planning on getting a 400-600w MH/HPS system. I plan on vegging with a 600w MH and flowering with either a 400-600w HPS. I am most likely getting a bowled-shape hood with a changable ballast. Do you think the light would reach all the plants? If they're spread out 5' horizontally? Just one hood and bulb or however it's usually done. Just letting you guys know my plans, and I would really like some feedback too about anything I should tweak or if I'm on the right track. Good luck with your grow, and anyone that could help please visit https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/280884-starting-first-closet-grow-need.html

Thanks!

I dunno man that seems like a small area for 600 watt. If anything I would try two 250w spread evenly apart. Good luck with the whole thing!

Thanks. I'm not sure though I mean I have to see these ballasts but I'm not sure if they usually make them that hold 2 bulbs, one on each side or something, that'd be great. I dont have enough money to buy two though so we'll see what happens. But yeah, If I bought two, I would probably do two 250 or 400w.

honestly if i were you i would just invest in the two separate lights n ballasts. I think in the end you would be happier.

the more light the better as long as you can ventilate it properly. problem is that plants can still double or treble in size during flowering so i think you are going to have a big problem with height. light will have to be 18 inches at least above plants or youll fry em. there are lights on the market with a fan cooling the bulb so you can keep the light lower but they are expensive. normal 600 will need at least 18 inches. good luck tho!!
