Deciding how many plants...

Ok Sorry. I tried to copy and paste the thread but the pictures didn't show up.
I'll try and find it from here and post the thread. If anyone here knows how to do this, some help would be great.

I can't take credit for this it has been ripped from another site but it is worthy of posting. I built one about double the length of the one below and found it to be very effective. I also attached it directly to a bathroom fan unit so it is inside of the grow room not hooked to the exhaust.

**

Security is important to marijuana growers, and odors can lead the police straight to your grow room. There are a number of 'odor solutions' out there, but they can be quite costly. Here is a simple method you can use to build your own carbon filter. It will take you about half an hour to construct it, and it will cost $20 to $30 dollars.

Aside from its main advantage of being ultra cheap, this method is also very versatile. It utilizes the exact same activated carbon filters that are used in professional air cleaners, without paying the huge prices. It can be adapted to practically any ventilation system. You do not need any crazy tools to build this - anyone can do it.

For supplies, everything is easily available at a store like Home Depot. You will need the following:

1 activated carbon filter - ( found near humidifiers, air, and hepa filters )
1 small roll of aluminum screen
1 four inch ventilation end-cap
1 four inch duct connector piece
1 roll of duct tape

No tools are required. A pair of scissors and a measuring tape are all you need.

The carbon filter I purchased is a 'universal' replacement filter for HoneyWell air purifiers. Since I didn't pay the hefty price for a professional unit, I will cut this to size. It was originally 16" high and about 48" long, so I cut it right down the middle. When the first filter is expired, I will have a replacement ready to go.

The next step is to cut your aluminum screen to size. I chose aluminum because it will be strong, and will still allow good air-flow. You could substitute chicken mesh or something similar. Since my (cut) carbon filter is 8" high, the aluminum will be cut to 12". The carbon filter will go in the middle 8" of this screen, with 2" coming out of each end to connect to the duct pieces.

Now we will attach the aluminum screen to the duct pieces, with duct tape. (This might be the first time you have actually used duct tape on ducts!) Do your best to keep it straight as possible.

It will seem a bit flimsy at the beginning. Continue to wrap the aluminum screen around and around, taping it every few inches. You want it to hold firm.

After a few wraps it will be fairly sturdy, and able to hold its own weight. However, don't drive your truck over it! Treat her nice and gentle like a Christian schoolgirl.

The ends of your screen may have little strands of metal poking out, threatening to impale you. Add some more duct tape to cover this up and to finalize the DIY carbon filter. Soon it will be done.

Now it is time to wrap the activated carbon filter onto our device. Conveniently, the filter I bought came with a couple of velcro straps, so I used them to hold it on. This will be convenient to replace when the activated carbon is expired.

After she's all sealed up, throw on a bit more duct tape around the edges of the carbon filter, to seal up any gaps. Only tape over the edges, because you want the air to flow as easily as possible. Air does not flow through duct tape. Here is the finished product.

Time to hook her up to the grow room exhaust! In this case, it is being hooked to a 4" square duct. (That is why I used a 4" round to 4" square connector piece. You may need a different piece to suit your ventilation setup, but a million sizes are available.) Just slide her onto the vent, and tape it down nice and sturdy. Duct tape is your reliable grey friend.

After she is attached and fire up, things are looking good. It is working nice, hooked to a 60 CFM fan, and you can feel the air flowing out of it lightly. The fan was not slowed down too much, but obviously a carbon filter will add some back-pressure to your vents. I haven't tried this with a slower blower (under 60 CFM), but 60 CFM is not a lot.

I just hooked this up today, so I don't know how often I will have to replace the carbon filter. The box the filter came in says to replace every two or three months. It does seem to make a difference though. Outside the grow room does not stink like a skunk anymore. There is almost no smell at all, except the faint odor of duct tape adhesive. I'm sure that will go away after a few hours.

Using this method, everyone can now build their own activated carbon filter. Its quite easy, and you can build it any size you need, to fit any grow room and any type of duct. Could it get any better than that?

Smokeum im sorry everyone has done this to your thread. To answer your question ... YES, one fan will be fine. I have a 6in inline and this thing sucks hahah. Its like this outside-->duct-->light-->duct-->fan-->homemade carbon filter-->outside. I got pics on my indoor grow...check it

The first pic you can see it good. See in the left how the duct comes back in, it just goes out makes a u and come back beside itself. This helps circulate air (sorry, i dotn really want to explain it all here :P). The second pic is just another shot. The third pic shows the duct going to the fan. The fourth shows the homemade filter on the outside of the room. The last one is just a pic of the room. But annnnyyyywwaaayyysss yes, one good inline fan will be enough. Get at least a 6in. Hope this helps a little!

Oh good. I found it informative espcially since I don't have a clue about building stuff  but this idea seemed sound and logical to me.
It does look better with the pics but being a guy yourself, you'll most likely know what all the stuff is he is talking about.
Either way I know you'll find your answers within a couple of days with all the knowledgable people there are here.

Take care:mrgreen::blsmoke:

If you like those, check out https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/30622-my-little-babies.html About 17 pages are people giving me hell for having more than one plant per pot and me defending myself. I clearly explain in the first page or two why i did this and what im doing. If you look at all the pics you will see what im doing is working and working very very well. I will have new pics up today so check back soon!!! I think the newest pics are on page 24 or 25..

Ok I will check out your pics. I don't debate with anyone over growing methods since everyone is so different but if something whats, I say 'go for it.'
And how do we ever know anything new if we don't try something didferent. Its all good.

Thats a great thread fatal but I can see how you can get discouraged by some people's comments. :-| I think some people get stuck on 'their' method of growing and close their mind to any new way of growing. I'm sure I'm guilty of this but with growing I'm quite open to most new information.
Try not to let it bring ya down. You have a lot of encouragment in that thread as well so just focus on those peeps and what they have to say. A lot of people just don't read the thread thoroughly and post a comment before understanding it. I know I've done that a few times here myself.
Just keep growing and stay postive.

I'd say your best bet would be to just corner of a 4x4 section and use that for flowering, in that space you could have 16 plants quite easily at a rate of 1 per square foot. in the space to the side you could have a little wardrobe or something with a mother plant in and some veg space for clones if you wanted to go down that route, or you could just have a wardrobe with two shelves and some cfls and veg all you need there.

Me personally, I would go with at least 30 regular seeds because 50/50 means your going to get 15 females out of that if you get any less than 16 you can give them more space or if you get anything over 16 you can pick the best plants.

But 16 females at 1 per square foot is what i would go with. Well thats what i do, except i do 9 plants on a 3x3 area under a light, but thats only because of the length of the trays.

I have a 1000w MH/HPS switchable light...and I'll be making a 7'x4'x7' grow room and covering the walls with some thermal shield i picked up(its like poly shield but with mylar added; from what i can tell) I have 2gal nursery pots for veg and 5gal nursery pots for flower...I'm trying to decide if I should veg 16 plants and have approx. 8 females or should I go for the gusto and veg 25 plants and keep approx. 12 females. I can fit 25 2gal pots in an almost exact 4'x4' space and then my 12 5gal pots would fit in a 3'x4' space...But reason me asking is because I want to go for as much yield as possible off each plant and it seems like when you push the limits on plants per 1000w sometimes the outer plants are neglected and dont yield much..I'm not trying to do a SOG or anything as I'm growing from seed and want them to get thick and bushy rather than popsicles and I dont have the funds for a light mover so any advice on my situation would be greatly appreciated...If any other infos needed just ask thanks :blsmoke:
that light will cover a 4x4 area very very well. IT could easilly cover a 5x5 area.

I really think you need ATLEAST a 4x4 area for that thing......

The amount of plants depends on how you grow them.

If you want taller bushier lants with lots of sidebranching then less would be better.

You could fit ALOT of single cola girls under that thing but it doesnt seem like thats the route your going.

sInce your going with fewer bushier girls id say anywhere from 12-16 sounds good. A 3x4 area is small for a 1000 watt light....that could be lit with a 600 watter, Theres no way you could get a 5x5 area hahaha?? I have seen 1000 watts light 4x8 flood tables easily many times.

obviously how soon you flower will effect the answer as well, the sooner you flower the more you can fit under that thing

I just woke and im too lazy to read through everything so I dont really know if im just repeating someone else...sorry if I am hahahaha.

anyways it depends alot on the strain too some side branch alot more than others.

Also more plants demand more co2.

Excuse me?? WTF???? :confused::confused::confused:

You don't have to be so f*cking rude about it.
All I was doing was trying to help.
If you're gonna get offended that easily dude you picked the wrong place to play asshole.
HEy lacy I got your back....

Telling someone to "Shut up" is very nasty to me.

DISHBELL You actually believe you have the right to try and stop lacy from talking.

Go back to where you came from, dont worry Lacy you didnt even give any bad info so I dont know what that assholes problem was.

GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM!

we dont need people like you here.

man reading that made me angry.....

oh and lacy....I think you should go with a 600w hps...then if you dont think thats enough add a 400 watt mh.
a 600w hps with a 400w mh can be very effective. What size room are you gonna put it in lacy?

Hey everyone great post you guys..all this stuff is very helpful...Good to hear I can do that with my venting F4t4l and thanks for the pics itll make it alot easier when I go to set it up...and nongreenthumb I was thinking about having 2 seperate rooms but I only have one light so to do that Id have to make some more money first to afford the second light..but I think im going to take you up on that 30veg/15flower scenario as it seems that i can do well over a 4'x4' area with my light...so ill veg a 4'x5' area then for flower itll be a 4'x4' area..i plan on vegging until they get around a foot tall so hopefully ill be able to get good yields off all my plants...thanks everyone

Thanks Mr W.
Yes you're right Mr. W about the light and space. The room is going to be more rectangular. We are just building it now so I want to know all this stuff ahead of time.

I'm gonna go with the 600 watt light that converts from MH to
hps. Later on I'm going to get a 400 watt.

I'm not completely sure of what I am doing but I have a good idea.

 Ok I have a better idea than I had before.

Thanks for having my back Mr. W
I feel really protected now.
