Okay, im using an aerogarden, im currently on day 31 and im using foxfarm nutrients. Both the plants are just some random seeds ive had around.. this is my first grow, and ive read up as much as possible..

Ive had these problems since the start (prior to nutrients and everything).. i have a timeline of pics, with the most recent at the bottom..

I thought it was the magnesium but i went out and got some epsom salt and added it at week 3, and it hasnt changed the plants at all.

I check my pH everyday, and make sure its around this

I would really appreciate any input on this, about what you may think the problem is.. any improvements i could make.. etc, thanks.

This is how the plants started.. it starts on the bottom.. and when the bottom leaves die it moves up a level to the next leaves.. and its been doing so non stop, please help

Week 1

week 3 (pic is upside down.. sorry)

day27

day 26 .. you can see the plants are doing great at the top.. just the bottoms dying

Now with updated pics from 10 minutes ago..

try skipping nutes for now, and use water, if it doesn't clear up, you may want to clean up and start over. looks like it may have been ok, til you used nutes?

in the first pic i wasnt using nutes.. and look at the plants there.. they were almost dead with the same looking leaves... i suppose i could try it without nutes for a bit.. but how long should i let them have no nutes?

other opinions are still welcome.. need to solve this

I use soil really, im just thinking, seedlings generally start off ok, and react poorly to their medium, could be the setup wasn't as clean or maybe the seeds just aren't great, but it looks like it did ok, for a week or two, and then the browning caught up.

What color are your roots? I've seen people with this happen because the lower leaves are not getting enough light. The rest of your plant looks nice and green with no signs of a burn, no burnt curled tips. I think you need more light and check for root rot. Your roots should be pure white.

I personally use this:

http://www.generalhydroponics.com/genhydro_US/florakleen.html

Works great to get rid of excessive build up. Anyway, I have been on a rant about this lately. Liquid/color PH kits are utter garbage. I thought my PH was fine, I was using a liquid PH kit like you. My plants started having some issues and someone said it was PH related. So I bought a PH pen and tested my run off and it was @ like 7.8 when it should have been down at 6.5!?

So yeah, bite the bullet...and get a PH pen...be SURE of what your PH is.

EDIT:

The deficiency symptoms you are having look more like Calcium to me than Mag.

Another thought. Are you mixing in your res? You should prepare your soultion and slowly add it to your res. If your squirting PH up or down straight into the water with the roots your going to mess up your plant for sure. That goes for your nutes as well.

check ur roots and get those lights as close as possible.... cfls drop off rate for light is huge..... the closer they are they better it will grow.... you want them about 1 inch away... and yeah id say the problem is root rot from your description....

well .. as of right now i have no more money.. will my plants be fine if i just use plain ph'd water without nutes to 'cleanse' them?

yes, i have distilled water 1 gallon containers that i mix the correct amount of nutrients for the week (according to the fox farm nutrient schedule) and i correct the ph. i then put it in the aerogarden.

You think so? I read a few places to keep them around 4 inches away.. And i just checked for root rot.. heres a pic..

so im thinking its probably a calcium deficiency.. and ill get some lime tomorrow to try to correct it... do you think i should still stop the nutes and use regular water still? this is my first time growing, sorry for all the questions..

are u using distilled water? if u are... just use tap water bro.... or if u have to, then just go buy some cal-mag, tap water is actually better than distilled or RO(as long as ur tap waters EC isnt about 1)

plants like chlorine(little bit) and all the other stuff in there 2(copper, calcium, magnesium etc)

id start quarter strength nutes and use plain tap water or the distilled water with cal-mag in it and 1/4 nutes.... just my opinion

I would cut off all that dying shit and let the plant focus on growing and not repairing damaged leaves
