2x4x5 .. i'm about to invest in a 400 watt hps. I'm a NEWBIE!:? I can't believe after all the reading i've done over and over again i never did research on grow tent setups!!! anyways.. my question is how the fuck do i set up ducting and/or is ducting needed for certain type lights i'm about to invest in.
Im looking into a 400 wt hydrofarm complete (forget the version) with the internal ballast and switchable hps/mh wattages. Also saw the HTG (Ebay store) deal for the complete sysetm with remote ballast which is MUCH cheaper but not as versitle i guess. SO PLEASE, If anyone can help. How would YOU set up the tent? ??? Venting especially, and any light recommendations would be great!... im on a tight budget so the Ebay Light is a bit more tempting...ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED..and also help me gain the knowledge needed for my future!!!

get a can fan 4" should be fine, attach ducting to your air cooled hood... you want the intake to the light coming from outside or at least outside the tent...exhaust into another room or outside to avoid pulling the hot air right back in.

your pm bout intake... the exhaust creates pressure in the tent, so just open the flaps on the sides, most likely there are screens, those are you intake

thank you ...i know its a pretty basic question.. like i said i can't believe after 6 mnths of reading i've never questioned this yet. Mostly becuase Im using cfls with fans

Whenever I hear anyone say tent I always wonder what they really need the tent for. Is it to conceal something? Can you really have someone you don't want to know about the grow (meaning everyone) in the room where the tent is? Why not just forget the tent? It makes the heat problem a lot easier.

Not trying to be a dick, but when I hear questions like this I always wonder how the person thinks they will be successful at growing.

Growing does require some science understanding and some mechanical aptitude - if you can't figure out the mechanism of an air cooled light I just can't see you being successful. Again, no offense.

And I too wonder what the point of the tent is. My suggestion would be to buy a few pots and some good soil, an inexpensive light and just stick it all in a corner and hope for a little usable bud.

Your totally right about the need of a tent ... if anything , it made things a bit more obvious.. however my place isn't well insulated so closets have alot of cold draft this time of year and are carpeted.. the tent did on great thing and that was created a bit of a controlled environment to grow in.

either way it does sound kind of dickish.. however you're right! but i am stil learning ..i've learned alot and if you check out my album.. I've gotten the hang of vegging with cfls. NOW I'm learning how to flower. THEN how to harvest ......as far as figuring out the mechanisim of an air cooled light, the're aren't alot of growers out there willing to showing you thier tents in person and see how it works first hand.... hey fuck it sorry if I'm sounding stupid IM NEW ,and you'll see how my buds turn out once i ask the right people the right questions. furthermore, (sorry i had alot of coffee) the most science that goes into the growing isn't the plants, it's the shit you have to use indoors to keep lights, ventilation, and odor controlled. Am i wrong:?

...naw, your right dude. Sounds like your get'n the swing of it and you've done some research. As far as the tent setup...I've seen them arranged as followed: carbon can filter attached to the air cooled hood/tube (which is being sucked from the opposite side of the hood, and is being exausted) ...try to blow up this attached photo. Good luck.

THANKS FOR THE IMAGE! and thanks for not shooting down my hopes and dreams of growing medicine because of a beginner type question. the image helps ALOT to give me an idea ...i've seen the setup before .. after my post i figured i'd give my local hydroshop a call .... he was explaining to me the model im looking at i could get away with just the exhaust fan and filter and duct it out of the tent and re-route it back into the tent to vent (i don't have a way to send my air outside in my space). also he says that way no need for an intake fan. I'm under the assumption this guy knows what he's talking about. I believe he runs a few hydroshops so I'm going to try and catch up with him and show me first hand in the shop how he suggests i set up the fan, filter, and ducting. this is the first and only place i've ever seen any hydro systems, hid lights, and tents set up in person, so like i said to see it all first hand will be alot easier. Thanks again!

dude... thats the dumbest shit i read today ...ataxia it doesnt take much to grow dont be fooled or discouraged by some of these bad comments... with a little time and effort you will be successful. as for tents they are a great way to seperate light cycles for perpetual grow, as well as controlling the temp humidity very easil........ to the shit tal this is a forum to give and recieve help. if your doing neither then whats the point of bein here?

It takes a lot of intelligence to say "i don't know" and balls to ask questions. To the scientist above, way to be a pretentious know-it-all with no useful information to the one asking the question. Impressive.

Keep asking questions, that's what this site is for. All dickheads should know that by now.
