Trying to start a grow

Hi im trying to get a grow going and was wondering how what i got planned will work out. So i am going to use my walk in closet which is probably about 6.5'(L) x 4'(W) x 7.5'(H) and i am doing 3 plants (cause that what i'm aloud to do). I want to use some t5 high output fluorescent bulbs which the setup i was looking at (4 4' bulbs, each bulb is 54 watts) puts out around 20'000 lumens at 216 wats. I also plan on using soil (sunshine mix #4). Just wondering how this will work out, hoping to get a little more then a ounce a plant. thanks for any help and hopefully will be starting a grow journal soon..

Have any good links or advice on growing with a 600watt HPS? Is it harder cause the HPS gets hotter? Do you change bulbs in HPS or is it one bulb the whole grow? Is one all i'll need? will i be able to get more then a ounce per plant? really i'd much rather do HPS just thought CFL's were easier.

CFL is cheaper and gets the job done. But if you're willing to spend the cash, HPS is pretty tight. I'm to cheap and I just use CFL in winter and go outdoor in spring & summer.

cfls are not cheaper than hid in the long run guys, not even close. you can get a 400whps ballast and bulb for like 120 bucks or cheaper online, 10 40w or 42w, close enough, will be at least 60-100 for just the bulbs alone and then you still gotta buy all the sockets and cords and hanging stuff etc. 400w of electricity is always 400w of electricity, it doesnt matter if its being used by a cfl or hps cost wise, but the hps is far more effecient with lumens put out for watt used . here's a link to a thread thats got links to all kinds of various lights and stuff.(brb with the link)

you gotta point, but in reality when your just shopping at Home Depot and Walmart, CFL's are pretty damn easy to come by and really cheap. Veery few people actually go all out during their first grow. And if CFL gives you decent results, so why not use it until your ready to step up? Sure HPS is tight as fuck, but the initial costs are hard on a lot of people. CFLs work. If that's all you can afford, fine. You can still grow nice plants.

I would invest in a 400 watter HPS if I were you.
You can find a complete system on ebay for 150 shipped or shop around i'm sure there are othere sites that have better deals, but keep in mind you will also need to find a way to keep your room cool as these HID sytems produce alot of heat and you will eventually have to invest in ventilation and/or ac aswell.

You can get away with no vents if you can keep that closet door open at all time with a window near by to let fresh air in.

lol, i agree, cfls are perfect to start with, you can slowly build up and get lights as you go and learn the ropes, after your first few grows combine your veg and flowering area into a new veg chamber and get a 400w hps or whatever you decide to go with for the flowering chamber.(keep a few 42w 6500ks to go in with the hps in the flowering chamber(or get a son aggro hps for the mixed spectrum) to keep the spectrum mixed,
